According to MQA they have a buyer, so they will likely keep going. Maybe it won't work out and their lossy DRM scheme will disappear. That would be good news.

From the article:

Quote
The full statement from MQA reads as follows:

"Following the recent positive reception to MQA’s latest technology (SCL6), there has been increased international interest in buying MQA Ltd. At the same time, MQA’s main financial backer is seeking an exit. In order to be in the best position to pursue market opportunities and expedite this process, the company has undergone a restructuring initiative, which includes entering into administration and is comparable to Chapter 11 in the US.

"During this process, MQA continues to trade as usual alongside its partners.

"We won't be commenting further while negotiations take place."

Sounds good to me. Tidal would be the only viable buyer.

Chapter 11 has nothing to do with this action, which is occurring in the UK.  It is “similar” to Chapter 11, not the same.

Good riddance.  Simply a streaming version of HDCD, which also died because it was useless.

having worked in london plenty in my career i am well aware what administration/chap 11 means in the uk context - what are we arguing here?

Chapter 11 or similar usually means the company needs to be protected from creditors during bankruptcy.  There likely is an "interested party" who wants to purchase some of the tech for pennies on the dollar.  It's over, folks.

Unfortunately customers of MQA licensed gear paid a premium for that short lived, controversial “service”.

I'm unaware of anyone expressing interest in adopting SCL6, but I guess at this point MQA and the adopting party or parties would be the only ones to know.

Great news, while the principle owners got rich at first the every ending loss of money has finally caught up to them.

Apparently, "SCL6" is another licensing scheme where they get paid for a CD-quality version of Bluetooth audio that could be better than CD quality if all the devices license the whole "SCL6" protocol. So, MQA blackmail payments ("pay us or else consumers will think your DACs are not up snuff") weren't working, so they went for the "worse than Spotify on a Motorola phone" Bluetooth audio market.

I wish them the best of luck.

Why are you all happy about a business filing bankruptcy?  If you don't like a device or the technology, don't purchase it, but celebrating failure (if it indeed does fail) kind of makes you a crappy person.

MQA has been lying to people and defrauding them for years. Their lies have led companies to pay money to appease those who were duped by the lies and expected to have MQA-approved nonsense in their DACs. The lying hucksters showed up at audio shows to harass and heckle people giving technical talks that simply raised questions about the veracity of their secretive process, a process that made remarkable and unsubstantiated claims with no transparency. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSv0lcHlawk

When someone figured out a way to objectively validate their claims, they deleted the files from their service and published lies about their actions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRjsu9-Vznc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHkqWZ9jzA0

So, please, do go on. Tell us how we are bad people to see some glimmer of hope that fraud, deceit, extortion, and harassment might be at an end.

I stand by what I said.  And what is it that they say, two wrongs does not make a right.
