Does anyone have experience with the bp20 preamp?
I am curious how it compares with the bp25 or no 26?
thank you

Hi

I have a BP20 with the mm phono and MPS1 power supply
I’m quite fond of it
Haven’t heard the 26 personally but have read they have only slight improvement over the 20

In regards to the 20 v 25 difference a google found this:

The BP20 is exactly the same as the BP25, except that the BP25 has a motorized volume pot

And the BP20 has no remote and the BP25 has a simple remote IIRC - mute, phase, volume up & down.

You might want to search out some of the reviews that came out when the BP26 was introduced- they may enlighten you as to what differences there may have been over the Bp25

Thank you
I read this review from 2016 and it makes me think the BP26 does give a better sound than most preamps.
Any thoughts ?

This is from 13 years ago likely not long after the BP-26 arrived on the scene. At least it gives some content on the differences. Audible differences may require a deeper dive.

I had a BP25 that replaced a 12B and I was very happy with it. I only sold it because a new model had come out and having something even better was an exciting prospect.  In my experience, all the Bryston stuff sounds good and with excellent speakers and especially excellent headphones, the improvements in each generation are very satisfying. It's more subtle with merely good speakers simply because the speaker anomalies will mask the differences between already good electronic components to a degree. Ultimately, if the BP20 is what you have budgeted for I think you will be happy with it.

I'll add that Chris Russell told some years ago that the really high quality electrolytic capacitors they use should sound good for 20 years. By that point, the rise in DA will make replacing them worthwhile and I highly recommend it. The sonic degradation is not subtle. It's experienced as a pronounced loss of clarity and is a real, measurable phenomenon.  Bryston does this recapping for a modest charge and I wouldn't hesitate. I assume they will have an authorized shop near where you are but you would have to ask them.
