I have been using GIK Impression Pro Bass Absorber/Diffusors behind my NX-Oticas, but I felt that the sound was not as lively and airy as I wanted. So I decided to order some custom diffusers from ATS Acoustics. My ceiling height is a bit less than 8ft, so the standard size diffusers are a bit too tall to stack two and clear the ceiling. ATS is willing to make them in custom sizes for a small upcharge. I ordered eight panels so that I can have 4ft wide floor to ceiling diffusers on either side of the french doors at the front of my room.
The new diffusers sound fabulous - much more lively and airy than the GIK diffusers with a nice deep sound stage and solid image localization. I'm very happy I made the switch.
Unfortunately, one of the diffusers was damaged in shipping - looks like it was dropped on a corner from a pretty good height. They were fairly well packed with foam corner protectors, so it had to have taken a pretty good hit. I'm waiting to hear from ATS to see what they can do.
When I ordered them, I had planned to stain them with mahogany tinted stain to match the book cases and wood trim I have at the back of the room, but now I'm thinking they might look better with a light finish, or maybe even white paint. Thoughts?
