Do the wells of the diffusers need to be oriented in a specific direction or should they look symmetrical when installed?

I don’t think it matters. I tried both ways and it didn’t seem to make a difference.

When I was installing my acoustic panels, I was told by manufacturer (Vicoustic) to install them on the walls as symmetrical as possible.If you have a door on one wall, don't install panels on the other wall, across.I tried to put panels on the ceiling symmertical to the walls too.I have a designated hifi room, it's bit different.Perhaps, this may help.

It probably makes a subtle difference, but I tried swapping a few of my panels and couldn't hear a difference, so I settled on setting them up symmetrically (mirror imaged left vs right).
