Introducing myself
« on: 27 Feb 2022, 06:53 am »
I'm a failed audiophile.  I have had equipment with me since the early 1990s.  Never got a full setup running properly.  My main go to system presently is an ATC CA2 preamp, feeding a pair of Jungson 100W monoblocks, which drive a pair of ATC SCM35s.  Source at the moment is a basic Marantz SACD player as well as a Slim Devices Transporter.  Researching nice streamer so that I can use my iPad/phone to control the music.

The dream sytem involves vinyl but I'm just too lazy to get it setup!  Should I?

Welcome to AC!  I have vinyl but rarely play an album.  Getting too old (73) shaky and lazy but for some reason I keep buying phono preamps.  One came last night

Welcome. I’m about 30% vinyl and 70% CDs. I don’t stream.

Welcome!  Nice gear, except sources.  One step at a time.

I literally dropped my nice turntable nearly 40 years ago and have been digital ever since.  Never could stand the vinyl surface noise and was building a "digital ready" system even before dropping the turntable (perhaps a Freudian slip ).  Vinyl is hard to get into: hard/impossible to find albums, most copies are damaged, expensive to get pressings in good shape.  Lots of hassles: flipping half way through the album, cleaning, setup, stylus replacement, vibration control.  Plus that surface noise and lack of dynamic range.

Nowadays only play ripped files and CD quality streaming.  Can't even use a CD player on my system.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.  I couldn't afford vinyl when I was younger.  Now I cannot afford the time!  Source wise - yeah still tug of war between the process of cleaning vinyl and playing them vs the ease of streaming (another slippery slope).

I still have a few SACDs and DVD-Audio discs collected in the past.  Streaming is convenient but still looking for the holy grail!

Hi, I totally get you.  But its the sentimentality associated with turntables etc.

Honestly, i had a whole collection of DAPs and am still looking at how to integrate some of the better ones as an aux source.  There has to be a reason for this madness!  Still trying to get everything working together but the technology for streaming and bluetooth seems to be always one step ahead!
