The NX Studio Fuzzymod. My "too imaginative"  view of what could be. I'm thinking the flocked part of it might warrant a video, what say the gang here? I plan on posting a photo progression of the mods, but I'm kinda giddy with the results and wanted to give y'all a peek.

Wow, that is REALLY cool Peter. I've never really seen anything like that. I also love the way you did the angled chamfers on the front baffle.

Flocking? Like the upholstery in model cars back in the day? That’s entirely too imaginative  :)

Far out, man, don't you think? Flocking never really went away, just needed an old hippie to resurrect it so it could be cool again...like bell bottoms.

Oh dear lord please no. Soon enough we'll have our speakers looking like gaming desktops full of lights. To scare everyone away from the idea, just think of the electrical noise interference in the system.  :duh:

Also Peter, those look fantastic and I bet they're even better in person. Nice work.

I'm interested in the chamfers and if they affect the sound compared to the roundovers

I was thinking more like a white speaker.  Turn the lights off and the GR logo appears.  Or some other cool design.

Well, Mike I can tell you where I am on that subject. I know, and have repeated, the common wisdom here of a minimum of 3/8" radius. These come with 1/2" on sides and a square top. I've never seen the off axis measurement that showed the edge diffraction difference between those two, but have seen evidence that smaller radii are mostly benign in their effect. When one goes larger, like 1" or 1 1/2" it would appear that makes a theoretical and measurable difference.

Is it a concern with what I've done here? I kinda doubt it, but if someone wants to prove it out and measure it, I'm certainly game to provide these to them for evaluation once built out.

I mocked one up on stand just because. When I added bottom thickness, I recessed for the Monoprice stands and added a couple of retention bolts with T-Nuts from the topside.

Very cool, Peter. You do excellent work. Recessing the speaker stands is extra cool.

For those interested, I thought I'd flesh out the how-I-got-there part of this.

Cut off roundovers and filled to get square edge.

Made a one-time jig for bevels.

Cut and installed bottom extension

To end up here, ready for bodywork and paint

I'm adding epoxy-in inserts to my arsenal. I freakin' love these after using them a few times

Peter J two points on your latests posts.

  • W O W that is fine craftsmanship.
  • Suffering a strange attraction to all maker topics that intersect with "epoxy" I ask for details please on "adding epoxy-in inserts to my arsenal". Are they regular woodworking inserts glued in or a special epoxy specific type?
