Another new guy orders the Mini
« on: 15 Jul 2021, 07:49 pm »

The flat pack arrived last night via the brown truck. I’m still in the throes of X-SLS construction but I think I may squeeze in a dry fit tomorrow between finish applications on the towers, and I might even glue the flat pack up. When the electronics get here it'll be full on ahead with the build and an attempt to veneer with this lovely laurel burl:

It’s humid here and the tung oil finish is taking forever to dry:

After a quick dry fir it’s a very easy glue up. Thumbs up to Danny and crew. :thumb:

Nice work!
What is the radius of the round over on the front baffle?
Did you use paper backed veneer?

That's 1/2” roundover. No paper backing, the burl came as seven leaves cut in sequence and I used Heat Lock glue and an iron. I also used softener on the veneer for the curve. The veneer expanded a lot with the heat and I wished I’d softened the edges, too, but I’m just going to say the burl cracks give it character and save the lesson for next time.
