  hello all good AC peeps near and far. I'm looking for an amp to fit right into my system.  I have a VAC pre and D48r ProAc speakers. They are 4 ohm and 90db. I had a few deals but they fell apart. I'm in Canada and shipping isn't a problem if you ask me. Everything good always comes from the states it seems. 10 times the people.  Any ideas is also greatly appreciated.  I listen to old time R&R and the likes. 60's & 70's.  medium size room.

I think the Pass Labs XA-60.5 recommendation is an excellent one.  I own the X(non-A)-350.5 and can testify as to the SQ and sheer power.  Now the XA-60.5 is pure class A to 60 Watts and provides substantial headroom beyond that.  The specs say it leaves class A at a peak output of 122 Watts!  Fully double the rated output.  My X-350.5 leaves class A at 40Watts so when not crankin' the system I do get Class A benefits.  And yes class A amplifer operation is the shit for Solid State.  I also have a pair of Krell KMA-160 monos, a pair of Threshold SA-1 monos (both rated at 160 Watts pure class A), a pair of Monarchy Audio SE-100 delux monos (100 Watts class A, these were real sleepers).

If you want this amp to be the end all be all then I'd hold out for a pair of the .8 amps in your desired power level.

FWIW all Monarchy Audio amplifiers are high bias class A/B.
I believe a pair of SE 100 MK IIs are available for under 2k. 
100w 8 ohms, 200w 4 ohms
9"w x 5"h x 12"d - 22lbs each

SE 160 Hybrid and SE 250 Hybrid monoblocks for more power and tube input stage.

I would bet any of Tommys DAC cherry amps would sound superb with that pre and drive the 4ohm proacs easily,Lots of folks like/recommend a good class d with tube pre for best of both worlds. Lots of good options out there,best of luck in your hunt

OP's question is unanswerably vague. Budget? New/used? SS/tube? Twin mono/stereo? Fabergé-esque/plain box. Etc. One person's overkill is another person's not good enough.
