I have interest in learning and building my own - going thru some fundamentals & youtube channels 
If you not a experiencied technician in hi voltage and a Copperfield with the soldering iron to weld thick solid wire, I recommend dont mess around tube amps, they are dangerous and work with hi voltage DC, I can testify it why if there was not a person close to me I would have died.
DC tension is
not safe as Edison said its a lie, DC tension so low as 30V DC already can kill a man by disturbance of the heart rhythm.
A Solid State amp or DAC is much more safe to work, above 500V DC can happen corona discharge from transformers to a near person, this is a voltage value common to be found in big tubes as 211,845,GM70,GK71 and even in smaller tubes as GU50.
Some safety procedures to work in tube amps are:
Rubber boots, rubber or leather gloves, no rings, no watches, protective goggles, keep a capable person near you etc...
