This sort of involves Manic Moose, but is not really about MM, rather a query about how Bryston updates MPD versions.
With hindsight, it still seems a very good decision to base the Bryston digital playback on the open source MPD music player. This continues to be supported, allows direct plugin of simple USB drive stored music files, and is now used by a good number of other manufacturers. Best yet, it enables third party user interfaces which myself and I would guess at least half of Bryston owners are using.
And on that, I noticed that Berrie of Rigelian has added a new feature, ie. viewing of liner notes, directly from the Rigelian app. However it needs MPD version 22 as a minimum. This triggers a question I never thought of before, how do Bryston developers decide when to enable a new version of MPD? The current v. 19 dates to about 2016.
So some questions:
1. Can a new MPD simply be inserted in the MM dashboard, or does that require a corresponding set of changes within MM to facilitate whatever set of improvements the MPD update allows?
2. Are new MPD versions becoming more challenging to incorporate, especially in the older Bryston players like BDP-1 or 2?
3. Finally, is it likely that there will be essentially a "final" MPD version that each player will allow?
