I've only briefly played with OB speakers, and admittedly not with optimal drivers.I would like to have a listen to what is considered an excellent OB set up, but I'm not sure where that would be.A few years back I set up my Urei 813B drivers in large open baffles in my old shop. I was unimpressed. I'm not sure how one would get decent bass out of such a set up.
The author is writing it from the perspective that box speakers are the ideal speaker design. Most of the issues he brings up with regards to excitation of room modes are actually worse with box speakers. He is just showing his bias.
