Splitting after passive pre

Is there a problem with splitting the signal after a passive preamp? What do I need to look out for? One pair would go to a full range amp, the second to a sub, possibly through an external xover/eq, so I need low level not high. Or, is there a passive with dual outputs?
Thanks Ryan

Hi Ryan. One of the major things to look out for is the total capacitance of the ICs, esp with passive/resistor types. Want to keep it as low as possible.

Hope this helps.

Ryan - My experience with this was not very successful, resulting in a definite lack of impact in the bass. I attribute this to the relatively low input impedance of my subs, and the need to run relatively long cables. But I think your success will depend on the specifics of your setup.

Besides the capacitance problem mentioned, there can be transmission-line reflections that aggravate the response of the driver.  This effect depends on what the driver configuration is at the preamp output and whether there is gain-control feedback on this stage or not.  Usually, if there is a series resistor there, this effect is minimized.

ryno,
Our F.T.Audio Little Wonder Passive Controller has two preouts since day one.

Sorry about this question, it's prretty vague. I'd love to do a ack dac and a bottlehead or similar tube pre, but it's for a bedroom system and a battery dac and tube pre are not the best choices. And I'd like to keep the option of a xover eq for the sub.

Hi Paul
I saw your web site for the little wonder, looks nice, maybe a little much in features and price for my little system. In this unit are the two preouts just a split from one, or is there something else inside that makes this work better.
Thanks for responding, Ryan

ryno,

It is my buddy Fred's design X-coupler that different from the traditional passive.

I have been running powersub with main amp for a long time.  One of our customer even run biamping as well as a powersub, so practically is triamping.  He biamps with a y-cable through one preout and the powersub from the second preout.
