CD-PRO2M Builder's questions and comments

Hi Zemtex!
As you probably know   I have tested the cdpro2m kit against a Copland CDA288X  cd player used as a transport. The Copland uses the VRDS CMK4.0 drive, which I think is the same as in TEAC VRDS10 (which I used to own) and in wadia 850.
It also has a lclock xo2 innstalled.
The Cdpro2m is superior to the Copland in almost every aspect when used as a transport. I havent decided which transport that are best in the treble region, but in the lower frequencies the cdpro2m is just great. However as a standalone cd player, I would say the internal Dac in the Copland (4 pcs BB pcm63-k) is i decent step up soundwise compared to the internal stock dac used in the cdpro2m module.
I am using the cdpro2m kit with an Audio Note dac.
Hopefully www.diyzone.net will offer a great external dac for all of us that aren't located in Asia soon.
I have not compaired the cdpro2m module against more sofisticated vrds drives using the cmk3.2 vrds version. (teac vrds25, wadia 860 etc). These are supposed to be better than the cmk4.0 versions.
Hope this helps.

Best Regards

Hi Ken!

Aww that's a shame - ah well patience is a virtue I guess.

Any chance you could post a message here when they become available again?

Cheers mate!

Hi-

I have been considering giving this a try, but have been unable to get ahold of Ken.  I figured I'd go ahead and post here to see if he responds.  It seems the last information left was that the parts were out of stock, so I don't expect much, but thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Hi Rob,
Ken doesn't inport these anymore.
You should try ordering directly from Taiwan:

Let us know if you're successful in ordering the kit directly.

Actually ken is just about out of everything. He does still have some of the CD player chassis left.
I recently purchased quite a few of the E-series chassis and commited to buying his remaining inventory on these. The larger chassis will be used for the Usher D2 and Bella SP/AV-2 crossovers housing the ZERO-Autoformers as well as our new preamp.

The smaller chassis will be used for all other non-ZERO external crossovers.

YIKES!  Can't read Mandarin...or whatever that is.  :shake:  I don't know if I have the guts to try to do it without having Ken around to discuss issues with, though I believe folks on this thread may be inclined to help.  It looks like most issues were discussed in the thread itself.  I don't know, perhaps I should wait until another kit starts making its way through these parts, but I really liked this one.  Quality looks really good, components seem to be second to none.  I see the CD-PRO2 on the website, but can't understand a word......

Anyone have any idea how to deal with my3c ?

Hello langtuhanoi,
As I mentioned above, Ken is out of the business and has moved away so do not get upset if he does not respond. I know because I bought out all of his remaining inventory (not much) of chassis a couple years back.

You can get this kit at http://www.my3c.net/
That's were Ken used to import them from.
This can be used as a stand alone CD player. It has a built in DAC and buffer op-amp. The output is out of phase though, you can correct that by reversing your speaker polarity.
But the CD-PRO2 kit is better used as a transport in my opinion.
Hope that helps,

The resurrection of this thread is great timing.  [I am not selling] I have a CD-Pro2M kit I bought off Ken that was built but not working appropriately.  He sold me extra boards and parts to fix it.   I just dug it out last week and was looking for the manual so I can trouble shoot.

Would anyone happen to have a soft copy of the build manual?  I only found a couple pages so far.

Send me a pm with your address. I'll send you a copy of mine. I might have it on my hard drive as well. So send me your e-mail address too.

Anand.

I have an extra CDPRO-2M that I'm willing to sell for $685 + shipping. It was professionally assembled from the kit and has the DAC installed (i.e., CD player) plus upgraded clamp and pulse transformers and some cap replacements from K&K Audio. It has RCA and XLR digital outs and RCA analog outs. The XLR analog outs are installed but aren't connected (neither are the feet, as I used after-market footers). At my asking price I'll include a Marigo Crossbow which I found to improve the sound and insure a better clamp contact.

I have one of these too which I built. Worked great for about 6 months to a year and then it wouldn't power on anymore. I traced it down to one of the relays on the display board which I replaced and got it to work again but the lcd display would no longer work. While trying to figure out what was wrong with the display I crossed my meter probe over one of the connections and shorted something out and it no longer works at all. I imagine I toasted a chip on the display board or something.

Does anyone know where I might get a new display PCB and the parts to populate it or someone to troubleshoot my board? I'd really like to get my cd-pro going again.
