Osiris stand question

My Osiris stands for use with my Onix Ref1s have just arrived. What a nice, well built, heavy stand  :D

I do notice the top plate that the speaker rests on is not perfectly flat but rounded a bit towards the edges. What have you found that works good in coupling the speaker to the stand?

I have heard some people say a mouse pad cut to size works good. Others love Blue Tac, even though I have no idea where to find it!

I use Blue Tac and you can buy it at Home Depot, Staples, Office Depot, etc ... for around $3/pack.

if u go to HD or Lowes, it might not be called blue tac but rather museum putty...it's located in the earthquake proof section along w/ the tv straps.

At Staples look for Elmers 'Fun Tac' for about a buck and a half a pack and it's blue in color.

Between my speakers and Osiris stands , I've had good luck with a piece of rubber shelf liner cut to size. Really grips the speakers.... 8).

I've used what Lonewolfy does too.
Works great and easily available at the local "dollar stores".

Thanks lonewolfny42 for bringing that post back up.  I was going to start in about the sorbothane discs.  They're just great as they couple the speakers to the stands below about 150Hz-200Hz which improves bass response; really tightens it up and improves bass articulation/definition/blahdy blahdy blah.

Then, above the 200hz point, your speakers are isolated from outside vibrational intruders (and the internal bass vibes were already transmitted down the speaker stands.)...it's really just a great match and not that expensive. $12 per stand.  so $24total outlay for what was a very marked improvement in my setup.

One caveat about these sorbothane pucks; your speakers must weigh between 25-30lbs each in order to properly load the pucks.  So you might need to add a weight to the top of your speaker.

I used a combination of leadshot and rice in my stands only b/c I couldn't get dry sand at the time.  I would say the best combination would have to be dry sand with fine lead shot (toss in a cup of rice to absorb any stray moisture).

I use sorbothane sheets from Edmund Scientifics:

cut to size to fit the top plate of my Osiris stands.  One warning, though -- over time, these will stick to and damage the finish on the bottom of the speakers -- use felt or something between pad and speaker if you care about this!

I don't wish to sound oppositional (love that word!), but I would be careful using the shelf-liner recommended by lonewolfny42.  I have had some experience with that ype of product, perhaps a different manufacturer, or perhaps a slightly different composition of the material, but I found that it can leave marks which are not easy to remove.

I think that this may be similar to, or the same as, the product Michael Fremer warned against using as a turntable mat.

    Best Regards.

I also use the Osiris stand in one of my systems.  I prefer to couple the stand and speaker with Audiopoints (brass).  The point that Goldmund makes works very well also however is even more expensive.  I improved the Osiris stand sonically by filling the columns with Micro-bearings.

Picked up a couple of bags of sand and a roll of drawer liner today at the Depot. What a difference that made :o

For now, I'm just using my old Paradigm Mini Monitors. Not great, but much better then when they were on an old pair of wood TV trays

Can't wait until the Onix package arrives  :D
