The name's got to be inspired by Schiit Audio, don't you think? Anyway...

Can't see the connection frankly.......unless you're implying the Shinola 'Runwell' TT is sh*t , which I don't think it is.:) Nice looking TT actually.

There's this audio brand, Schiit. There's now this turntable called the Shinola. And there's this old saying about "not being able to tell the difference between sh** and Shinola." When the Schiit brand came out, many people viewed the branding as a pun. I was just speculating whether the name was inspired by the Schiit branding. This type of statement is sometimes called a 'joke'.

Shinola has been around for quite a while independent of Schiit.  The started making watches for men who wanted something MUSA.  The pun is purely coincidental.

Of course I got the joke Coop, one of my dear departed father's favourite sayings.  But I can't really get the hoopla over this table.  VPI's cheapest arm, nice looking platter supplied by VPI, a thinish plinth over a hollow base, with a built in phono pre.  I'm sure it plays records just fine, if it were $1,000 or less good deal, but for $2500 I don't see it, I'd much prefer a Scout at those prices.

Ok, so here's my take. If Shinola was first, then Schiit decided on their name and waited to see how long it would take for the joke to be discovered.  :thumb:

Anyhow I'm old enough to remember when you could actually buy Shinola and I don't mean watches or TT.

This table is not marketed to audiophiles.  It is marketed to those who want an upscale option for their vinyl "lifestyle".  It is the equivalent of a piece of furniture.

+1 If you browse the Shinola site you'll see their whole marketing angle pretty fast. They simply take pride in genuine US craftsmanship, clean / classic style, and offer it at a reasonable price. Some may see it as upscale hipster stuff, but it really isn't. Shinola has likely been around longer than Schiit. I think it's a beautiful table. As it is built by VPI, it likely works and sounds great too.

I believe it was designed jointly by VPI and Shinola.  It's asembled/made by Shinola.

These are Shinola employees as i understand it
