I'm picking up another pair of high-efficiency speakers with a horn on top and I've sold off all my tube amps. I'm looking for a tube power amp or monoblocks to use alongside my Juicy Music tube preamp.

The speakers are 102db/1w/1m so I can use just about anything with them. I'd prefer 5wpc or up... not interested in flea watt. Low noise is a high priority for me.

Not looking for anything Chinese unless they are high end.

Trying find something special for about $1000 or less. Unless it's a smoking deal on something really special.

Show me what you got!!

Altec/Onkens. 102db/1w/1m. Lusted over them almost 2yrs ago when they were for sale on another forum, and missed out. They popped back up on Audiogon a couple weeks ago and I jumped on them. The woofer is a Dayton unit, but network and horn and driver are all Altec.

45 tubes will give you 2 watts or so.  That's the direction I would go.  You are not going to come close to maxing out a 2 watt amp (unless you have a huge space or head bang constantly).  I would consider a Korneff 45 amp if you can find one.  I would also consider a 46 amp.  Harder to find (more something to build), but they are stunning.  My speakers are 94db or so, so I am using 300Bs.

The room these are going in is the main room in my loft. The main area is 38'x40' with 9'6" ceilings and it actually goes back almost 70' on one side. I'd say total square footage of the room is close to 2000sq/ft.

When I had my Klipsch KPT-904's I ran them off 5wpc SEP monoblocks that used EL84's, and 8wpc 300B monoblocks. I really think I wanna be at 8-10wpc minimum just for when I wanna turn it up a bit.

I've been upgrading amps recently and now have more than I can use.  If you're interested, I have a Dennis Had Inspire KT88HO amp.

It is a tube rectified, single ended pentode amp that can run just about any power pentode or tetrode (EL84, 6V6, KT66, EL34, KT77, KT88, KT120, KT150) and just about any rectifier tube.  The driver tube uses a 6DJ8 or 6CG7.  Super quiet and Dennis will do a power supply update (he just came up with a cool new regulation circuit).  It is identical to this with a different driver tube:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/STEREO-TUBE-AMPLIFIER-INSPIRE-by-DENNIS-HAD-KT88-TUBE-SINGLE-ENDED-AMPLIFIER/152314317677

I bought it a few months ago and have barely used it.  I have another SET amp and one of Dennis' higher powered (and much more expensive) amps as well.  This amp has a a thread over on Audio Aficionado with nearly 3,000 posts.  Power ranges from 5wpc (6V6) to about 12 wpc (KT88).

Dennis Had is the now "retired" founder and CEO of Cary Electronics who hand makes and signs these.  They are really cool and a lot of fun.

PM me if you are interested.

My brother's.

Yeah. I'm sure those sound nice, but I'm really wanting to stick with a bit more modern solution. Thanks though!

Woah. I'm guessing you missed my $1k budget part. That's a heck of an amp.

Have  several tube amps that accumulated in the evolution of my present system. How about a Canary 306 with less than 75 hours on amp and 300B tubes?

Woody.  Did you have these shipped?  If these were originally located in San Antonio, I've heard them.  Good stuff.  If you need a little tube integrated to use with them (2.8wpc) let me know, I'd be happy to sell you one.  :D :D :D

They were the ones from San Antonio. They were currently living in Midland, TX and the previous owner drove and met me halfway... about 4.5hrs for each of us.

I think I've made up my mind on an offer from a member here on AC. The deal isn't done yet... but I'm excited. I'll post when it's done.

You might check over on the Klipsch forum.  Kolledog is trying to sell a Will Vincent Baldwin tube amp.  25 watts per channel.  I have heard good things about them.  I have come close to buying it myself for use with my horns.

I have one.  It's dead quiet with excellent sonics -- dynamic and sweet at same time.  Much gutsier than the spec suggests, with a hefty well controlled bottom end.   This amp offers tremendous value and is a true unheralded gem in audio-land!    :thumb:

Here is the one I have up for sale;

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=147116.0

Although its an integrated you can set the volume at half power and use your Juicy Music for control. I had borrowed a 4P1L preamp with great results in this configuration. Very airy with deep controlled bass.

This can be moved to completed. I've purchased a set of Icon MB30 SE monoblocks from a member here. I'll have them next week. I'm really looking forward to trying them out with my Altecs. Thanks again to everyone for their offers. There was some really intriguing stuff that came out of the woodwork.
