Looking for some good RCA plugs for my diy cables
« on: 9 Jun 2016, 12:54 am »
I'm not afraid of going to fleabay, but there are many choices (looking at rhodium)

It sounds vain, but they should also look nice (eliminates rean, industrial brands like amphenol).

Here, I'm looking at neutrik pro-fi,  but at about $18/pair they arent cheap.

I currently use canare rcap (dont like) and some partsexpress/dayton (ok).

I'm staying away from the ridiculous like furutech, wbt and the like.

Thanksl

Switchcraft make some very nice sounding, high quality RCA's for insanely cheap prices.  Not quite WBT quality, but for $1.98 you can't beat them.

Sonic Craft has an RCA connector sale going on now, you should check them out as well.

I think the Radio Shack plugs are nickel plated steel. I am sold on Eichmann Bullitt plugs. Look cheap. Sonically the best.

Try the Neutrik NYS. I was surprised by the quality and price.

I liked the Amphenol jacks from PE when I put together some RCA interconnects
As mentioned the Neutriks are a great value , I thought the Reans were too finicky although some folks love them

Don't know if these are legit.

Furutech dealers are not allowed to sell on ebay and it's strictly enforced. Not to say it never happens but there is a ton of fake Furutech out there.

From what I've seen there are several types of "fake" on ebay (furutech and others)

1) a nearly identical superficially copy of the real thing being passed off as the real thing
2) a nearly identical superficially copy, with brand markings, being sold as a no-name brand product
3) a similar looking, but with obvious differences, product being sold as a no-name brand product

I refuse to buy 1 or 2.  3 is ok by me since the seller/mfg isn't making an exact copy and isn't trying to pass it off as real. No deception,  no infringement of the real product.

Great source is Douglas Connection
http://www.douglasconnection.com/

RCA's including reasonably and silly expensive options http://www.douglasconnection.com/RCA-Connectors_c15.htm

This looks sweet for $12.50/pair

When mandatory use connectors I prefer low mass type.

I found Vampire all copper (gold plated) to be excellent. Scape off a small spot of gold plating when soldering.
They are expensive, but mighty good.

Cheers

Do you know which model? They seem to make a dozen different ones.

Used Shindo 1M interconnects cost around - $700 - 800.  They have Switchcaft RCAs.  Just sayin'.
