Squared to Cubed
« on: 18 May 2016, 02:58 pm »
Hi James,

I understand that the squared to cubed upgrades are awaiting approval.  This is just the case for North America I guess.

What the situation for Europe?

Ron

Any news on when these upgrades will be available?  I have a 4B squared that I would like to update to the new cubed version.

Hi Randy

Its not looking to good - the certification people have not answered yet but they are saying we would need re-certification if we change the existing circuitry.  That would not be cost effective for our customers.  Still trying  :duh:

What do you find lacking in the 7's?

I would try to audition. The 7's are SOTA.
Or save up for 28/3 in due time.

Nothing,I have the upgrade itch. Everyone loves the 28's and beleive there is a noticeable difference between them and all other Bryston amp models. I think you have both 7's & 28's, your thoughts.

I was planning on updateing my 7's & now James is thinking it might not happen. Lately I have upgraded equipment in my primary system.  BDP-1, to BDP-2 to which I added the new sound card. BDA-2 to BDA-3 and they have been noticeable improvements, not suttlle. Even adding a Bit-20 the background became, darker, more quiet.

James has been coy with the present sucsseion of new equipment. So far, my purchases have exceeded my
expectation. I have a feeling the cube is another step forward. I guess what I'm pondering is do I purchase 28/2 or now go with new 7 cubed if there is no update for the 7's.

The other problem that many of us deal with is the WAF.  The price for new 7 cube would cost about the same to purchase 28/2. However the 28/cube would be another $15,000. It's a little difficult to justify that to the wife. LOL!

I wish I was able to audition. That takes a little more ambition on my part.

I also was reading the 14/2 to 28/2 thread. I guess the thought of no upgrade what about a 28/2?

I'm perfectly happy with my 14/2.  (Have no WAF to deal with, either).

Next upgrade on my poweramp will be when the 14-quad comes out in a few years' time.  8)

Lucky you!! She perfectly happy with Bryston 9/2, with Model A's. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of that system BDA-2,BDP-1. However she's content with me putting on the music and no interest in learning. She will put on the tuner but hates the subwoofer and action movies above 85db.

Sorry for the rant!

No worries, do whatever turns the keys.

Listening to Mahler 7th on BDP-1 now. Bernstein 1965 recording. The 14B2 makes it all seem like it was yesterday. No graininess whatsoever, an amazing feat of engineering. The bells and trombones, yikes.
Effortless dynamics and the separation.......what can I say or ask for more from an amp?

Listening to Jurassic Park right now, at 24-bits res. The more I hear this 14B2, the more impressed I am with its chameleon-like nature. Very neutral and yet not clinical. No grain in the top end whatsoever.

Toyed with getting a cubie, but no more. Temporary insanity on my part, I think. Very content with this gentle giant of an amp.

I never knew there was a 24/96 remaster from this awesome soundtrack! I downloaded it, compared it to my first edition cd, and am amazed at what mr. Williams accomplished! Holy excrement! :p
Now I need to find a way to come to friendly terms with my neighbors again...

LOL, I know. It's one of the few hi-res albums I've bought this year. Love the movie, music, and now....the percussion and lush strings, not to mention the brass. Also picked up Grease -- Travolta/Newton-John, in hi-res. Wow. Saw the movie back in jr high 1978, so it's a sentimental ride.
