Teresa's Ford GT40
« on: 25 Mar 2016, 05:24 am »
Teresa, a good friend of 10 years, came by my house last evening with wine and cheese and happen to mention she is selling one of her cars. She left the GT40 at home but I plan to see it soon.

The chauffeur puts your clubs in the Rolls and delivers them.

Nice, can you share what she is selling it for? Just to get a perspective as to what they cost used. What's it like to drive or ride?

Love it!  An ergonomic challenge, but oh, what lines and performance!

Please note: this is the Ford GT sell by ford a couple years ago, not the Ford GT40 from endurance race as LeMans in the 1960, so it run smooth at traffic.

This example is a excellent replica of the original GT40 and not the newer version recently made and sold by Ford.

You sure?

It looks like an MK II to me... Doesn't look like 2005 version.

I sure that its not the model from the 60s.

It is neither an original 60's nor 2005 vintage.  It is a Superperformance kit car from the description.

They make lovely stuff and you can take it as far as you want.

My old boss built up a Cobra kit of theirs with his then 17 year old son.  He has others nice cars (62 Vette convertible, modern Lotus, modern BMW turbo convertible) but the Cobra always gets me out of my office and into the parking lot!

The GT40 here appears very tasty indeed!

The GT40 is a MkII tooled in 2008-9, I don't know her selling price and haven't seen it yet as it has been recently trailed here from her home in NM.

Yes, Teresa is single. She loves music, movies and good tequila.
Back in 1978 the band Little Feat released the album Waiting for Columbus. One song on the album is "Dixie Chicken" and they must have been thinking of Teresa when they wrote the song.

Nice use of San Xavier del Bac as the horizon. How did the photographer manage to catch it with the parking lot so empty?

You would have to ask the photographer about the empty lot.

I found a fun article about the history of the GT40:
http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/0611kc-superformance-spf-gt40/

Some tidbits:

The first Ford GT premiered at the Nurburgring 1000km race in May '64 and later that year at Le Mans. After a couple of years of rapid refinement, the GT40 Mk II was built. Campaigned at the '66 Le Mans, Mk IIs swept the field, finishing 1-2-3, with McLaren and Amon in 1st place, Miles and Denis Hulme in 2nd, and Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson earning 3rd. Throughout the remainder of the '60s, GT40s continued their reign at Le Mans with 1st overall finishes.

Fast forward to the new millennium. After four years of engineering and development, replicar manufacturer extraordinaire Superformance began producing the GT40 MKII A, a faithful replica of the original that tore up Le Mans in '66 and continued terrorizing racetracks throughout the '60s. The Superformance SPF GT is so exact in detail, over 90 percent of the vehicle's components are interchangeable with the road-going version of the original car and chassis.
