Hi there again!

Well, after having send my first thread over a month ago here I seem to think that this is more a forum were people glorify more commercial enclosures, and with that there is lots of viewing yet not to much of constructive conversation & exchange of knowledge in the audio field especially in my own line of Interests ‘Loudspeaker Enclosures’ more build in a DIY way.
So as said already the first one was a fizzer so let’s try another for good measure and be surprised IF …. there is a exchange happening and not just a pick your brain and not engage type of what ever.

Anyway, my second month of early retirement is as sweet as the first and I have been quiet busy with going through my papers of design & development from as far as 10 to 12 years, but over the many years I have been involved in DIY I had collected and archived everything I ever had in my head, build or was going to build once I would come to age to do all these things.

OK, here is my first design I always wanted to build except that it got a little bit more involved because when I was preparing to cut my slices I realized in one cut actually three (3) other were included. So this is a build up of a speaker enclosure in four (4) sizes 1, 2, 3, & 4 like bookshelf, automotive car, automotive van, and well yes no.1 I leave to you own imagination, but I mite say it myself HiFi & Automotive maybe.
(I’m sure if anybody has read that far down that surely will stir the pot!)

Before I go into the details a little bit more I like to mention that at this stage I build the size 2 & 3 and I’m heavily into building size 1 presently. The overall sound quality on both finished enclosures types (no. 3 sealed with a 300 Watt 6x9 Infinity speaker 46 Hz to 23th Hz – and no. 2 with a 6x9 Lanzar 1200 Watt 60 Hz to 21th Hz with a 10” Passive Radiator) with everything right from the start of the running in period was very promising, and after one (1) week wave generator & two (2) weeks music program it is quiet breathtaking to listening to either type, but out of different reason.

As you maybe will have noticed this design is of course build with I.S.C.T. - 'Innovative Slice Construction Technique' and it is ONE design shape yet 'AS IS' can be used in 3 different application! Imaging / Reference & Subs.

Exchangeable, Artistically Enhanced site Panels as in Solid wood, MDF wood Carving or Leather Carving Etc:


Now the no. 1 size: This is an Image in the very early stages of the build and it is suited for 8", 10" or 12" speaker chassis and single or dual Passive Radiator use up to 12". This is a build up and in the Image you can see one side PR & a rear PR with speker chassis on the oposite site as in no. 2. I'm actually much further then this Image - close to it getting covered and finishd off! yet I have a problem at the moment with my PhotoShop so newer Images have to wait until I fix that one.

When I'm listening to music then I listen to more or less to everything, and the interesting thing about these speakers was that there really performed with anything very well like of my many test CD's I collected over the years to B-Tribe, Andrea Bocelli, Blind Faith, Deep Forrest Lady Antebellum, Led Zepplin, Celtic, The Alan Parsons, Mike Oldfield to Zucchero Etc.
I like to listen moderate to loud, and what was amazing me the most was the detail I could hear of music program types I heard for years yet never was aware of the detail including the beautiful clean but also strong / powerful bass of the no.3 sealed enclosure and even more so the extended bass on no.2 with PR – bass & lower mid’s which were so much more pronounced and that all from 6x9 speakers which we in general discard as basic automotive – cheap & nasty – without much spec’s to go by.
6x9 always interested me so that was my reason of trying some good chassis without going strait to 6.5” or 8” mid-range or woofers!

Yes, and thank you very much for the Link. I’m only so very much in Orr about how in general people glorify or simple so much looking up to commercially manufactured equipment when it comes to Loudspeakers. I can understand this much more when it comes to electronics like Amp’s, cables Etc. but as with enclosures I can’t see it!
Enclosures have been always neglected were as electronic equipment has kept been developed over the years. I find that there is so very much which could be done but especially let go of these basic rectangular boxes !!!

In a Nutshell this is what I.S.C.T stands for:
DRAMATICALLY CONTROLLING, REDUCING OR EVEN ELIMINATING THE SO VERY MUCH UNWANTED RESONANCE / VIBRATIONS IN LOUDSPEAKER ENCLOSURES THROUGH MOSTLY UNCOMMON ENCLOSURE SHAPES, AND THEREFOR MINIMIZING THE EFFECT'S THAT GENERALLY FLAT ENCLOSURE WALLS HAVE BY ACTING JUST LIKE UNCONTROLLED SOUND TRANSDUCERS . . .

Don't forget the tools needed to complete a speaker.  I enjoyed your other post but my lack of skill and "real" knowledge prevented me from adding anything to your thread. Some of us are new to the hobby and just spend most of the time sucking up knowledge and sorting through the many confusing and downright wrong myths and facts. Some things you have to experience to learn.

Others work many hours at a regular job and barely have the time to listen to music, so time to do what you are is next to impossible. Many have no desire to DIY and want something plug and play. It is the difference between many things, cooking for example. One person may enjoy a frozen dinner or take-out while someone who enjoys cooking can take the time to make something truly amazing and healthy to boot at a lower cost. But that takes time, skill and most of all passion.

Strangely yet I found one item in particular very interesting you mentioned, and that was this ‘sorting through the many confusing and downright wrong myths and facts.’.
Well, you are so right I did do this as well for years until I had enough and just started to think out of the square questioning everything and intensely getting into it to find my path, and the outcome was that it is all for show measurements here & there yet never anything was done about the rectangular or better I say by far not enough!!!
I do believe very strongly in measurements, and I do believe nothing is or can be without them yet not for the price of listening to sterile sounds, and looking alone at them does not help either - as I do need music in my life and that a lot of it, but most of it these days I need the best, good or simple perfect quality in the reproduction of that music NOT only at home but also with speakers like these I build there in my car??? (MAYBE - I do not have a car), but most certainly in any of my two 8 seated vans as I spend a lot off time in them and that mostly by myself! My vans music systems are just like sitting in a concert hall!!! A good head unit like 4x45 or 4x55 Watt– NO Amps, or Bass enhancement say by an active woofer, and the original system front & rear speakers completely disabled using instead a good rear Imaging set of enclosures & a center ‘Fill In’ set of enclosures, but I use a set of very high quality 2 way (woofer, Tweeter set 1 & Tweeter set 2 (powerful front screen staging)) passive crossovers. So all in all; true sound reproduction of any kind of music at all times without the Bum-Bum.

Please let me mention this as well: Placement & Angles are one big secret in not only the arrangement in your home but also in automotive, and with that alone you can do & move ahead light-years in your personal audio! Now if you try to think out of the square and convey that knowledge into & before building an enclosure thinks would become more clear and manageable and audio in its roots much easier to grasp!!!

Right now I have too many hobbies and too little time. I enjoy cooking, gardening, listening to music and so much more. If I make it to retirement, that will all change.

YES, I do have passion for my hobby but it would sound corny if I would say ‘I did get my priorities right’ as everybody’s priorities are different of course, and so be not mistaken in thinking I’m retired now and that all is fine - yes but (Audio – Enclosure Design & Development) is just my hobby.
Retirement does not mean for me to lay back and wait what there is to happen as I have worked in tree trades over the years and I actually have also my own business promoting Artists, Designer, Models, Photographers, Stylists & businesses in over 60 countries worldwide since 2006, and still that is only 10% of what I do day out day in!
So all in all – I like to be creative and keep that brain working with also giving something back and most of all try to make others think about things a little differently in some way, but especially with audio - trying to show that there is more then just ‘Regurgitating’ knowledge not always on sound footing in the first place!!! Hi there again,

As per the above write up here a few new items to be shown.

Let’s start with no. 1:
I mentioned that the volume of the enclosure would lie between 30 & 60 Liter, but this one as on the Image is AS IS between 33.5 & 36.0 liter presently. I'm not sure as yet which of my two (8" Swan / Hi-Vi 8 Ohm from Canada or the 10" Boss 4 Ohm automotive driver) as these are drivers I have at the moment in that size so I assume it will be the 10" first as I'm still looking for a suitable 12" at the moment for running & testing.


The next Image shows outer and inner decoupling rings A) left side white outer speaker decoupling ring & an inner ring both for the 8". Middle one is a 10" outer ring again & an inner one this time with threaded rubber nuts. The third set are both inner decoupling mounting rings for two 12" PR's.


This Image now is showing the two drivers I will use, and as well as two more options of using the exect same enclosure as above in a different way!


Well, that is it for today but more will come ASAP - some of the main items are getting covered at the moment!

The body part has been covered with charcoal artificial leather! The decoupling ring is only used presently to mould into the cutout.


Side view 1: The colour scheme is related to our New Zealand indigenes people which use Black, Red & White in there Art! I have used charcoal instead of solid black as the main colour as black comes with the PR’s & most speaker chassis. All colours are artificial leather.





Nothing as yet is trimmed still all quiet raw, but a view of some of the structual.

Hi there,
Sorry, no this one was more intended for home use, and that not only because of its weight which is above 45++ Kg already! When using the 10” chassis.
As a build up I will be able once the chassis arrive test both angles, tune & modify / make volume adjustments Etc. for 8”, 10” and 12” speakers with dual or single PR(s). At the moment I’m waiting for some Artwork to be finished for the blanking plate, and the speaker chassis as these shown are just some I have laying around.
