There is a great looking Kenwood KP-07 (built by Micro Seiki) on Ebay right now with 4 days left on the auction! It has a "Buy it Now" price of $795! Which I think is a steal.I wish I had the spare $$ right now, or I'd buy it.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-turntable-KENWOOD-KP-07-vs-Micro-Seiki-Japanese-version-of-KD-07-/252209595099?hash=item3ab8dd02db:g:NG0AAOSw8-tWa4sC
Here is a very nice Thorens TD-160 that has been refurbished similar to my Thorens TD-145 which I bought locally from a friend that refurbishes TT's. I made a new wood box out of Cocobolo similar to that 160. It sounds great with a Nagaoka MP-200 cartridge. It was like the TT and cartridge were made for each other. The tone arm will need a low compliance cartridge like a Nagaoka. You can pick up an MP 110 for about $100. I bought my MP-200 direct from Japan for $230. The TD-160 is basically the 145 without the auto off I believe. If I did not have mine I would snatch this one up at this price.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thorens-TD160-MkI-TP16-Tonearm-Shure-M75ED-Type-2-Cartridge-many-improvements/321934948957?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D777000%26algo%3DABA.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D34882%26meid%3D05b9422579e1456f9ada9d85b1226911%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D151914086874.
I would actually advise against the Thorens TD160 if it has the stock arm. Maybe it was an anomaly, but the example I tried had the most obvious microphonics I've ever experienced in a tonearm—at least in combination with the Decca London Gold I had mounted in it. You could actually hear your voice coming from the speakers if you spoke loudly near the cartridge. Immediately prior to this I had the cartridge mounted in a Keith Monks unipivot arm and it sounded extremely good. Up to this point I never would have believed an arm could make that much difference. I sold the TD 160 immediately.
