Buy a different arm on eBay or CL.

Hi Wayner,
Just to let you know I ordered the 50 dollar AR headshell offered post paid on Ebay. It's worth every penny and looks very well crafted. They include a bag of different length screws to mount most cartridges. What was really impressive that I live in Maine and the headshell came from California and I got it the next day. It wasn't FedEx either. The connectors are all gold plated....Mark.

You probably can't post that in this thread as it is an item for sale. Maybe move it over to the market place......(against AC rules, I do believe).

Nice deck tho....

Hi Rcag-ils and Wayner, In my parts stuff I found a AR tonearm mounting post. Rcag, the bearing seemed visually worn in the brass mount for the 2 small screws that are in the tonearm, left and right. For curiosity and learning curve I took my smallest drill bit and bored the nylon? bearing out. I said bearing because it is one piece of plastic or nylon or something named in Audio Karma with a D. It resembles a very hollow tube that looks like a small bar drink straw thats stiff enough to be fed back inside the brass mounting piece inside the tonearm mounting post. It looks like it would be a press tight fit to put a new one in and if not maybe a trace on a tooth pick of clear painters caulking would permantly keep it in place  from moving.
It's late right now but I will take a picture so we can find out where to get this stuff because even if you find a pricey old tone arm on ebay those bearings would be worn. The Audio Basic mod from Frank VanAlstine assumes that the bearing, bearings, it's one piece, are in good condition.
This looks like a simple easy fix once we can find that little piece of hollow plastic that came out the other end of the brass when I drilled it. No money involved. I will find the name of that stuff and re-report tonight......Mark Korda
