Couple quick questions here:

Do you think audio gear would be more happy with 117 VAC or 112 VAC?

Would it be normal for a heat sink to be "hot", like 125 VAC between its surface and ground?

It shouldn't make much of a difference, as most AC is turned to DC anyway.  I do not think that a heat sink should be hot (in the electrical sense).  There must be some short to the heat sink.
