to replace my 5 year old played everyday Matsushita 6922's in my Audio Research LS7 line stage? Tell me a little bit about why you would recommend a particular tube, thanks.
I would check out 7DJ8's. They are high quality, tend to be less microphonic, and are more reasonable price wise. They are a 7 volt filament 6DJ8, and should work in most 6922 applications.
Have spent some time swapping 6922, 6N1P-EV, and 6DJ8 in a low-watt Decware.Compared to the other two, the 6922 has an annoying loss of detail, with sloppy LF response. The 6DJ8 has the most overall detail and tightest LF response, but, you will give up some LF presence. The 6N1P-EV seems to be a perfect compromise. As military surplus, there are plenty available, prices are quite good, and you shouldn't have a problem finding matched sets.
Jim you should try the 7308's that Kevin Deal sells. You can get a matched pair for around $200. Well worth the price.Sturgus
Jim see if you can find Valvo 7308s. Do it before demand skyrockets the price. They have a touch of Mullard 2432 in the midband and a bit of Tele CCa in the bass.
