I am looking for a new CD player on a budget of around $700-$900. My system component to match the player are:
Speakers: VMPS 626R w/ FSt
Int. Amp: Antique Sound Labs 1003 DT
Music Preference: Heavily Rock, and some jazz
Players:
Naim Cd 3.5
Linn Genki
Ahh Tjoeb 4000
Cary 308T (non tube)
Rega Jupiter
What would you rank each player in the following categories 1 being the best and 5 the worst. I am looking for a good player that still has detail but is still musically engaging with good PRAT. ...
I've heard all of these except the Ahh Tjoeb- all in different systems, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt- no A/B comparisons were possible:
I. Best in Details (microdynamics) Naim- 3, Linn- 3, Cary-2, Rega-2
II. Best Imaging/Soundstage-Naim-4, Linn-3, Rega-3, Cary-1
III. Best Pace, Rythm, and Timing- Naim-1, Linn-3, Cary-4, Rega-2
IV. Most engaging player (this is up to your interpretation)Naim-1, Linn-3, Cary-3, Rega-2
V. Best player for rock music and recordings - Naim-1, Linn-3, Cary-4, Rega-2
Best of luck. If you buy used for a good price and it doesn't work, at least you can put it back up on audiogon. Remember with the Naim you need to buy a Din to RCA interconnect- I think audience and chord make some.
