DANGEROUS RM40's!!!!
i recently switched from Martin Logan CLS's with a Legacy sub to the RM40's.
the CLS's were exceptional for any accoustic music reproduction, but they didn't "boogey" nearly enough for rock or electronica.
the RM40's sound so hair-raisingly real, that i'm finding my listening volume on critical listening sessions to actually be less that i've ever used. i find that i'm now setting my volume to whatever i would expect a "live" performance to be.
the problem with the RM40's when you want to crank up some rock or electronica is that they don't warn you that they are playing EXTREMELY LOUD - as most speakers would begin to compress, distrort, and YELL at you. the RM40's sound as relaxed, at ease, and unstrained at 105+ db as they do at 90, so you get fooled into increasing the volume over and over through your listening session as your ears become more damped. until finally you realize that you've caused structural damage to your house and the sherrif has been pounding on your door for the past 20 minutes.
don't worry about the size of the RM40's - they sound so damned good your eyes remain closed and you won't want to leave your room anymore anyways.
