B135 amp. (or part of..) does not sound so good
« on: 3 Feb 2015, 11:58 am »
Hello from Denmark !

I received a B135 a month ago but have had various problems - maybe some of
you have had the same problems:

1) Used as an Integrated amp the sound is rather harsh/agressive
Used as an power amp only the sound is very good. Can this be
due to 'breaking in' ? I have not used the amp for more than 50 hours i think.

2) There is a very distinct and somewhat loud  'hum' when listening to headphones.
I have tried disconnecting everything from the amp and the hum is still there.

3) Sometimes when turning on the amp there is a very loud 'pop' from the headphones
 - not from the speakers  .

4) When using an empty line-in and turning the volume all the way up, there
is a very nasty noise from the loudspeakers. This is not the case when using
a 'live' line-in (different noise then :-)   )  .

5) The frontplate gets 'very' hot after 6 hours or so - is this due to some
special design of the B135 ?

Thats it  - im am certainly not giving up on the amp but are looking forward to do some 'work' on the amp and hope
that this forum can help me on the way

NB: My speakers are B&W 683s2 and I use a 'non oversampling' tube fitted DAC as source.

I've had the same amp for about 2 months now. I can't speak to most of your concerns but mine also seems to get quite warm / hot ? towards the ends of the front panel. I just assumed that this was normal. Mine did blow the internal fuse once when powering on. The reason for that isn't quite clear and it only happened once.

Hi Folks,

It will run warm as we use the front panel as well as the side heat-sinks to dissipate heat.

About the fuses : I had to use  'slow burn' fuses instead of the 'fast burn' which came with the amp.

I have done that as well after checking with the service people at Bryston.

I should have also added that I am very pleased with the B135. Sounds great to me. And I'm also very pleased with my Bryston speaker cables.
