I don't know if this is any help, I have Threshold in a second system and using Pass X250, I've never used the First Watt gear, however, if the higher power amps are any indication the First Watt is really good.

If you have already heard First Watt and wanting something on that model specifically, my apologies.

Also looking to hear any comments about the F6. Looking very closely at the F3. Noticed that a few AC members have used it successfully. Any comparisons between the two.

I'm planning on building it as soon as the boards become available at the DIYAUDIOstore.

Best,
Anand.

If you have efficient speakers, the First Watt is better than the Pass.  If you have low efficiency speakers that are difficult loads, then the Pass will be a better match.

DIY Audio Store - has all the boards, pre-drilled chassis, and connectors you'll need to build most of the First Watt amps - http://www.diyaudio.com/store/

Maybe f6 after I finish the Aleph J, most parts on hand. Will get around to it sometime. Not today though, it's 4/20! (No, not that, have to file my quarterly sales taxes today).

My F6 arrived on May 13th, from Reno HiFi. What a HUGE improvement over my Emotiva XPA 2. It is so quiet, that a couple of times I thought I had left the mute on, and I'm talking vinyl!  There is so much more music coming thru my speakers, along with texture. It's as though I have a new music collection. The next thing in my system will be a Pass preamp, since First Watt doesn't offer a preamp.

This is a generalization and I tend to agree with you here for the most part, though I can speak from intimate experience that the Pass XA30.8 beautifully bridges qualities between the Pass XA series and Nelson's First Watt offerings. The XA30.8 is almost like having a more powerful/versatile First Watt amp. It is great! I didn't think it'd be so much better than the XA30.5, but it is.

But anyway, this discussion is primarily about the F6. It seems to me that the only bad thing about the F6 is that it is having a hard time getting out of the shadow of the F5. As it is nearly impossible to get an F5 for direct comparison, it seems the F6 may always live in the F5's shadow even if, in actuality, it is as good of an amp overall.

I built a couple F5's and I also built a Burning Amp 3.  I loved the F5 till I heard the BA3 (which is basically an F4 with a gain stage).  I'd love to hear all of the First Watt amps at some point.  I have the boards to build the Aleph but after building the BA3 I'm just not motivated to drop it in there.

How much do I love the BA3?  So much that I"m converting my stereo BA3 amp into a balanced mono block and my spare F5 into a 2nd balanced BA3 mono block.  Should be interesting :)

Very cool. Some day, maybe I'll learn how to build amps. That'd be fun.
