I appologize if this is innapropriate to post here, but it seemed like my target market.

Unfortunately, events have transpired such that I must sell my beloved AKSA 100 Watt amplifier kitset.  The kit is not yet completed, but I have left it in a state where the two main pcb’s are mostly completed with the exception of mounting the transistors.  I have not worked on the power supply and will not be including any components that were not in the original kit such as transformers, case, etc.  Everything that did come with the kit is included in this sale.  I purchased this kit in December of last year but I have not been at liberty to purchase the remaining materials necessary for completion.  Everything is in like-new condition and has been cautiously stored away when not being worked on.  I am regretful that I have to sell but other priorities must take precedence for now.  I paid a total of US $555 for the kit and delivery, and I am asking $420 delivered in the continental US.  Pictures are available by request.  Thanks for looking,

George

Hi George,

I am sorry you are selling your AKSA 100W;  since you've obviously not heard it, I can only guess the reason is purely financial.

While I will leave your post in the Aspen Circle, I very strongly urge you to also try the Trading Post circle.  There you are likely to get more people looking over it......

Cheers,

Hugh

If I'd not spent the last 2 months out of work, I'd probably pick it up from you.  :(  I've heard a 100wN before, and found it to be quite good.

Bubba966, ma man (are you sure that isn't Bubba666???).

So you think a 100wN is "quite good"?  What, say, do ya think of Kylie's bum, or Christie Brinkley's norgs?  Only "quite good"???

I know I'm biased but a number of non-AKSA owners have, after listening, commented on the N+ versions of the 55 and the 100 as being possibly the best sand amps they have ever heard.  That's a lot better than "quite good"!!

C'mon, put yourself down for an audition of the AKSA 100N+ which is currently touring the US ... you might get a thrill!

Regards,

Andy

Thanks Hugh.  The reasoning is financial and I wish it wasn't so.  Hopefully these kits will still be available in more prosperous times.  Per your suggestion I have posted this in trading post as well.  Kyrill I have sent you an email with some pictures; hopefully it will reach you in time.

Bubba -

Just curious - what is your basis of comparison?  Are you the "Bubba" who has the Pioneer elite A/V receiver?

Thanks Kyrill,
I got your email and replied.  I had been waiting up for a friend but they have arrived safely so it's time to hit the sack.  For all who are curious, the amp is still available.

George, I'll buy it.  I do have a few questions, my speakers are the GR-Research AV-3 (mains) AV-2 (center) and I primarly use my system for  home theater. I've been thinking of selling my Marantz SR-18 HT reciever and developing seperates. The Aspen amps sounds wonderful what were you going to use or what could I use as a HT pre-amp?  Once I figure how my set-up will look, let's set-up a time to talk and complete the deal. Jim :D

One other question, does your kit include any upgrades? :)

Hi JJB!

I have sent you a private message to answer your questions and discuss the sale.  Thanks!

George

edit: oh and no, the kit does not come with any upgrades, but I'm fairly certain that you can add them at a later date.

Hi George, JJB,

You can indeed add the upgrades at a later day, no problem at all.

This is a feature of AKSAs;  all present and future versions will be identically upgradable.

Cheers,

Hugh

How would an Aska amp do driving a sub, like the VMPS larger?

Hugh, Thanks for the info I will contact George tonight regarding purchase, could you answer the first part of my question regarding a pre-amp, as I use my system mostly for HT. What would be the best alternative for a pre-amp HT system, how would your pre-amp work:?:

JJB,

I'm a little flattened by your questions about HT, I'm sorry.

I see hifi and HT as two very different beasts and have never given much thought to integrating them.  The AKSA was designed as a no-holds barred high end stereo amp, and I never envisaged it would be used in HT applications with their multiformat front end and multiple amp complexities.  That's not to say it hasn't happened;  Fred S. in TX has an integrated system (hi Fred, I have your package now, many thanks!) and I know of at least two others who have integrated AKSAs into their systems.

But I remain ignorant of what to suggest for a front end, and perhaps someone here with HT experience with the AKSA can help us.  I hope so.  Suffice to say that the input impedance of the AKSA is nominally 47K, the gain is 31.6dB, or 38, and they are high sensitivity amplifiers, very easy to drive.  Most any preamp can do the job well.

The GK1 preamp, like the amps, is designed for high end stereo, but does have a HT bypass switch which directly routes input to output, outside any active preamp circuitry and the volume control.  This was included at Fred S.'s request to enable easy integration.  Some have suggested this could be a problem if straying fingers should active HT Bypass during playing;  the full output of the front end then finds its way to the amp and the speakers get quite a fright, I assure you....  So a few people actually disconnect this switch.

Don't know if this helps, JJB, but it shows the background and gives you some perspective.  BTW, while it's possible to integrate a full AKSA stereo system into a HT application, it's tricky, complex, and may turn up some strange incompatibilities with earthing.  I really don't recommend it for that reason.

Bob, an AKSA 100W amp will drive a VMPS sub very nicely, thank you!

Cheers,

Hugh
