I've had my Tyler D2's now for about two years and have been extremely happy with them. After I purchased them slightly used directly from Ty, I contacted Danny through AC to see if I could get the frequency response specs. I had read that he designed the drivers and x-overs, so I figured he'd know. He promptly obliged, and he mentioned some upgrades that were available that he said would improve the sound noticeably. Long story short...he was right!!! I finally got around to ordering the parts a few weeks back, and just finished the build.
The upgrades consist of: Sonicaps, Erse XQ coils and Pulse X polycaps, Mills resistors, new internal solid copper wire, No-Rez, and Electra Tube Connectors.
The imaging is much better, they are more spacious, and there is no "smear" in the sound at all. They quite simply play "bigger" than they did.
I actually did one at a time so I could critically listen to the stock and the upgrade side by side, and there was a marked difference in the way they sounded. Much tighter low end with more accurate midrange, and smoother highs. I could not be happier!
To be clear there is NO offence to Ty meant here!! He's a true gentleman and builds one hell of a good speaker, IMO. He actually mentioned that a lot of mastering studio guys were upgrading the crossover and such, but I opted to stick with the stock configuration at the time, rather than have him install the parts.
Here are some pics of my install and system. Thanks for the advice and your prompt shipment of the parts, Danny!!!!
