The process if building an acoustic guitar like a Martin is not something I have the time to learn. An electric guitar, on the other hand, is really not all that difficult.
That said, I already have a guitar I would never part with. And I can't think of anything I would do to improve upon it. It was built by Tom Anderson.
http://www.andersonguitars.com/When I started building speakers, it was because I couldn't find the speakers I really wanted. My goal was to build speakers like Tom Anderson builds guitars...phenomenal sounding and gorgeous to look at. He was my inspiration. (And many of the techniques we employ in finishing were the result of seeing some of Tom's early creations.)
Since I would probably never be able to build a guitar as fine as the Anderson I already own, I really have no desire to try. I think I'll stick with speakers where there is still room to push the envelope.
