Don't bother, i had that amp for years. (I still have the c2 pre amp). The bass is brutal, its about the worst pile of audio Junk out there.

Hi Mark. I was once a "Carverhead" (Amazing Platinums (SN:0003 & 0004), TFM-75( from the first production run), TFM-25 and C16 which I still use in the shed with KLH 17's, and even an auto reverse cassette TDR-1500). I just tell you all that for perspective. Steve is correct about thecarversite, I'm still a member from the old days. When I posted my TFM-75 for sale over there I got over 3 times the highest offer I'd had for the amp else where. (Way more than I thought it was worth based on sonics) Just be aware that they are huge "fanboys" over there and pretty biased, but they will also have plenty of feedback on upgrades and mods and places to have those done. I've owned Carver equipment, amps, receivers, and preamps. I suggest purchasing used Audio Research SS amps like a 100.2 or a 150.2 in you can find them.
Some of the older McCormacks are good too, like the 0.5 or 1.0 amps.

If your bi-amping the Audio Research 150.2 is a great bass amp.
I use a 100.2 on the top end and a 150.2 for bass in a bi-amp system.
Good stuff  .

BTW: My audio research 150.2 just plain killed the McCormack 0.5 on bass in my system.
For reference: I bought the 150.2 about 5 years ago for $1200.00 used.

I firmly believe a refurbished Carver M 1.0 t will run with the big dogs. Recapping and modifying the amp to the MK II level will give you a most satisfying powerhouse of an amp. Carver topics always run crazy so beware. I recently had that amp (refurbed) in my systems. It was wonderful. All older SS amps with aging caps will sound poor. I listened to that amp through B&W speakers, VMPS speakers, Carver Amazings and , AR's with great results. I preferred my CJ preamp over the Carver C1 but the combo was glorious. Huge power! Its got a switching power supply. Its not going to get better with mods.

I'll chime in as I owned an M1.0t for years and then had the Mk. II upgrade done by Rich over at thecarversite.
The modified amp will blow you out of the room, it's as powerful as anything you could want for home use.
It will NOT give you a 3D soundstage - I think for that Bob Carver relied on the Sonic Holography feature on his preamps.
I sold the Carver and replaced it with some (more) VTL monoblocks which have both the power and the 3D effect.

A modified M1.0t would make for a tremendous subwoofer amplifier or would be just great if you're biamping.
The upgraded amp will bring the sonics up to snuff BUT even though it's made to emulate a large tube amp a large tube amp will show it up.

In all fairness, I've never owned a SS amp that could do the 3D thing as well as tubes but the SS equipment has it's own set of advantages - low cost to operate, low to no maintenance, cool running, etc.

How much are the mods? Making it louder imo is making it worse. There was a whole lot wrong with it than head room and rms. It was noisy as all hell. It had a really depressing tone to it. The bass was completely lacking.

There was something wrong with yours, then.
That amp should be dead quiet and there should be no shortage of bass.
Mods are a couple of bills.

It's possible.
This stuff is all pretty old and on my old 1.0t cymbals sounded like Rice Krispies before it was refurbished.
Once I got it back my only complaint was a two dimensional sound stage so I moved it on.
It did everything else right.

Thanks to all the feedback and advise I am in the next few weeks going to be able upgrade my current preamp and cd player to a Rouge Perseus magnum preamp and a Rega Saturn r cd player after that it will take about a year to a year and a half to recoup from that expense and save up enough for the amps I am interested in but there would be enough to upgrade the two m 1.0 amps about $800.00 with s&h I just wanted to get feedback if I should save the money I would use for upgrades and save it for amp I want.I am looking at the Rouge audio stereo 100.

Hi werd I figured as much just wanted some honest input from somebody who has nothing to gain hey but I have a great deal for you got a couple of carver m1.0 amp to sell ya!

I picked up a road show Carver amp earlier today so tomorrow I can gave a comparison of older solid state amps: Bryston, Carver and Hafler. 
All are freshly refurbished so they're as good as they're going to get.
I'll give them a whirl and do a write up tomorrow.  It's been so long since I've heard a Carver amp so I'm really curious as to what the pecking order will be.

The Rogue is a $3500 tube amp so that's kind of an apples and oranges comparison. 
If you have the dough and that's all the power you need go with the Rogue.

The Bryston is currently driving a CC5 center channel speaker, the Hafler is hooked up to MMGs so tomorrow will be the first time I ever heard them hooked up to 3.7s.
It should be interesting if nothing else.
