What is going on at Audiocircle and Audiogon lately? Seems like every day someone starts a thread castigating a company for being overrated and overpriced. If it makes you feel superior, go ahead and make fun of those who have money to spend on seemingly frivolous audio jewelry, but don't underestimate the costs of making audio jewelry. Don't know how much of a price premium the German engineering warrants, but the labor, tax, health care, and overhead costs of operating in Germany are one reason their products cost considerably more than those Chinese made brass RCA connectors you compare them to. (I checked, WBT products are manufactured in Germany.) If you'd actually look at the materials list and processes used to make the WBT connectors, there's way more involved than just "a screw." The way I look at it, WBT is to audio as Rolex or Omega is to watches. Live and let live. The luxury product niche is always "overpriced" by the standards of rationalists, bargain hunters, and empiricists but luxury manufacturers still survive in spite of the disapproval of the guardians of fiscal sanity.

I would agree Photon, but this is the Cheap &Cheerful circle and high priced German engineering isn't allowed here.   :D.  And being that with some digging one can find WBT knockoffs that a least approach their quality for way, way cheaper (i.e. high copper alloy) there is a reasonable argument their top of the line is more market priced than cost priced.  They even have pretty good competition from their own midline product, a much better value IMO.

You are absolutely on the mark Letitroll98. I didn't intend for my remarks to come off shrill sounding. Maybe the constant barrage of negative political ads this time of year have me on edge and tired of negativity  Completely agree about mid-line WBT products, way better value.

Thanks boys for your kind.
My purpose here is inform people of good priced items, not defame the big brands.
I also would like to benefit from good products at affordable prices. :thumb:
Thanks

For that same price you can get 2 carbon fiber cartridge mounting screws from Elusive Disc. That takes the cake for me in the overpriced category. Let's see, at that rate a top of the line CF bicycle would cost as much as a Bugatti.

Good find, interesting that the eight pack is the same price as the four pack.   :o  At least in today's listing, it may be different tomorrow.  Oops, the eight pack is a cheaper, non locking plug, my bad.

I don't think any of those high mass RCA's are the way to go, no matter  how pretty. Try something like this...John

The adage "Your Mileage May Vary" applies here. I've experimented extensively with DIY interconnects and various factory made interconnects using all manner of high mass and low mass RCA connectors over the past decades. The Switchcraft 3502A is the all time high value decent sounding RCA connector IMO. Even Shindo uses them for their proprietary silver interconnect cables. However, they aren't the last word. I've made several iterations of DIY interconnects comparing high mass Vampire 800Cb RCA's ($75.00 a pair) and the Switchcraft 3502A. The Vampire is the superior sounding RCA in the systems in which I made comparisons. Not night and day differences, but there is a little more nuance and even tonal balance with the Vampire. (The comparisons were made with identical interconnects except for the change in RCA plugs.)

That said, my preference is for the low mass Eichmann RCA connectors. All RCA connectors in my Luminous Audio loom are Eichmann copper or silver RCA's. In the spirit of the forum - Cheap and Cheerful - I readily admit we're talking about a steep curve of performance vs. cost here and one pays a lot for the slight degree of improved refinement a pair of $75 RCA connectors brings compared to a $2.00 set of Switchcrafts.

Then why start this thread at all ??  Anyone who is Cheep & Cheerful would never have purchased this to begin with.

Well, we got the link to the Switchcraft (I have some already but didn't realize that PE sold them... useful for next time I order... ) :)
