Shopping at Vintage Vinyl

Went out with Jim and Jeff for a quick bite at Blueberry Hill then over to VV. I got two Shadowfax, Buddy Rich "A Different Drummer" and my new fave Tune-Yards "Nikki Nack".  These gals aren't normal

Here's a record divider that Jim found.

Yup...  Another sure "Sign of the Apocalypse".

After all, the two groups look and sound so similar......

That deserves some sort of an award!

I don't want to jinx myself, but I've had great luck with used records lately.  They are in pretty good shape and play as quietly as new.  The Buddy Rich was the typical jumbled mess, but the vinyl was quiet.  And these are 5-6 dollar records.  Great times to be spinning vinyl.

Do you suppose there will soon be a glut of CD on the market when everyone ditches their collections and only has hard drives and backups in the cloud.  Will we see huge collections of used cd for a buck or less?  Will we still have any way to spin them?  Maybe I should buy a couple of those Tascam cd players that John Marks wrote about in this months Stereophile????

I've been having bang-up results at Vintage lately too, Mark. St. Louis classics, barely or never played, $5 to $10 max? Sounds like my name is written all over that.

As for the CD question, the answer is yes. TONS of players made. Getcha a cheap Sony and rock. There's a resurgence in cassette playback currently too. Why? Maybe cheepnis, availability, dunno fershure.

Did you know that VV made USA Today's Top Ten US Vinyl Record Stores list just recently? Aren't we lucky?

Hope you're enjoying retirement, Director!  :thumb:

Hey Michael,
I saw NEW cassettes for sale.  What in the world is happening?   Recently I've seen my students walking down the hallways with Walkman players and I asked them about cassette and they just shrugged and said its kinda cool.  Usually the Doors on cassette. Pretty wild.

I'll know more about retirement as soon as the first home football game is played and I wasn't there.  Then retirement will seem real. Also when I see my first pension check.   See you guys soon I hope.

AudioKarma and Tapeheads have been buzzing about it for some time (bulk tapes sold and traded on ebay, etc.). Doubt we'll see any new audiophile-related products, but I'm pretty sure that this is being driven by the glut of players at Goodwill, or a new/old hipster angle, etc. The Nak Dragon will be even scarcer after this fully takes hold...

New releases? It's still the cheapest way to get a DIY recording out to the masses (and you know what they say about them folks!)...

Wishing you the best as always, brother in real music.  :thumb:

New cassettes! At Vintage Vinyl? Awesome!

A friend of mine just gave me a Nakamichi 700 cassette deck (circa 1974). His neighbor had put it out for the trash.  :duh: Mr. Mike M. was kind enough to overhaul it and get it working again. It's been a novelty item since then and a classic and it sounds amazing.  Now all I need is an Alpine car stereo and I can start copying all my vinyl and CD's to tape. Deja vu all over again! :thumb:

I wish I still had all my old casettes. But then again, they weren't recorded on the NAK. I always wanted a NAK but couldn't afford it in the old days. Now that I have one, I have little reason to record now.  It does have mic inputs though. Karaoke anyone?? :o
