Hi P Elliott,

Your IIIas certainly do look rebuilt. Who did the rebuilding? What was involved? Other IIIa owners would like to know.

I did the rebuild about 3 years ago. The frames are my design and are made out of Paduak. The crossover design is from AndyR on AA.
Initially I rewired the bass and mid panels myself but was never really happy with that. So when I got a second set of drivers I sent them back to Maggy for a proper reworking and did the ribbon replacement, so basically I have a new speaker.
100 watts of tube power is plenty with the more efficient xover, all 12ga air coils

Those are VERY nice looking IIIs's.  Is that another tube amp in your fireplace?  :D

Looks kind of like a Manley.

I wish!
No it is a cheap chip amp for the Janis subs.  Subs are active only from 40hz on down using xover and bass management from Marchand.  System is flat to below 20hz.  You really cannot hear the subs just feel them!

Beautiful set of speakers there. Nice job running them with tubes.

A friend of mine just  picked up a FREE pair of these.... a guy said to come get them out of his garage... How do I get in line to have quality audiophile stuff fall out of the sky into my arms?????  He is driving back from Iowa to TX tonight.  A very long drive, but it should be worth it.  Any tricks that I should know it help him set these up?

@ S Clark:

Kewl!  Others can chime in with advice about making sure the crossover is wired properly.  Once you confirm that you're getting treble and bass from the panels (from an amp comfortable generating at least 75-100 watts per channel at 4 ohms) try setting them up in an equilateral triangle (equal spacing between the speakers and each speaker to the listening chair) keeping the speakers at least a couple of feet away from side walls and preferably 6 feet from the rear wall.  Toe in the speakers so the tweeters converge behind the listener's head a foot or so.  Place the tweeters in; that is, so the left and right tweeters are as close to each other as they can be.  This will most likely NOT be the best setup in his room, but should give a solid taste of what these babies can deliver.  Once we kow the actual room shape and dimensions, we can recommend more interesting setups.
