Walls of Manufactured Stone
« on: 14 May 2014, 02:42 am »
I need to replace a long low retaining wall currently made with now rotting landscape timbers. It's about 60 feet long and varies in height from 6 inches to approximately 3 feet.

I am contemplating upgrading to some sort of fabricated stone. Unilock and Versalok are two names I have come across. Has anyone worked with these or similar product products? Are they cheaper and/or better than real using real stone or cinder block?

Even though it's a low wall, I'd have the work done by a professional.

It really depends on whether the manufacturers have a plant around you for distribution. I've used Allen Block with great success, which is widely available close to us in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan areas though they're based out of Minnesota.

If you're paying someone to install, the manufactured stone will be the least expensive.    No matter what way you go do your research on what should be done before the wall is stacked.  A proper footing is the difference between a 50 year install and a 2-3 year install.
