Hi and thanks for the reply.
I posted this question both on here and on Audiogon forum with the hope that someone would have actually heard them, but it seems no one has.
Thanks for the link. I do know about the Silent Speakers and from what little I have been able to find I think they are considered not as good as the Heeds.
JLM,
Darko does say that they present a very wide expansive sound but he also says that their imaging is excellent and remains rock solid no matter where you sit in the room.
From his review:
''Move around the room and the Heeds’ stellar imaging remains rock solid. Ambient information and ‘air’ are also strong points.'' He says that the bass is excellent.
From his review:
''Bass depth is easily found, heft and weight not so much – easier to get working nicely in a smaller space. The Enigma 5 remind me of the way Rega voice their RS1/RS3 – nimble bass bounce rides well ahead of chest slam. The lower frequencies on the Enigma are meatier than the Regas. On the best track from Radiohead’s Hail To The Thief (“The Gloaming”) the bass compelled me to bring the squat Heeds further into the room. The rear-firing port benefits from a little (but not too much) breathing room. Do not doubt the ability of the Enigma to go as low as many other similarly priced floorstanders. Radiohead’s bass throb was nothing short of stunning. Such eloquent low frequency realisation anchors songs like this to the floor.''One of his favorite speakers is the Magnepan MMG and he raves about it. In theue Heed review he says going from the MMG to the Heed shortens the soundstage somewhat but renders greater refinement.
I had heard of them before and was mildly interested due their having no real sweet spot. But his review is so positive that it is what really piqued my interest in them.
I emailed him and asked him why, if they were as good as he says they are, did he not want to own them himself. I explained that I was not baiting him and that I was in effect asking him what defects they might present that would keep him from owning them. Here is his response:
''I don't own the Heeds because I have a whole bunch of others speakers rotating through here. If I weren't a reviewer, I could happily live with them. Soundstaging is some of the best there is at this price point. Add to that great listenability off-axis and you have a very sociable speaker!''Here is the link to his review:
