New User Question
« on: 7 Feb 2014, 09:50 pm »
Hello..

I am a new owner of Bryston and am extremely happy but I have a question. It is probably a newbie question but here goes.

I have a BP-6 connected to my 3B SST. They are running Totem Acoustic Hawks speakers.
I notice that my right speaker sounds louder than my left speaker. I had an older Integrated Luxman amp and did not notice this. I am sure the Bryston gear is just more accurate.

If I switch the Channel gain to 1V it is louder but unbalanced, if I change the switch to 2V gain it is quieter but the speakers sound balanced. Is that normal?

I have tried a few different cables and it is the same.

Is this normal and do I just change the balance dial on my BP-6?

Thanks

Make sure the Stereo /Mono switch on the back of the 3B is in the stereo position.

Hi James.
I'm sorry but I do not see a stereo/mode switch on the back of my 3B SST. I looked on the actual unit and in the manual.
I see a bridged and individual and that is set as individual.

Now, I can be sure that you are new to Bryston world. :lol: :thumb:
bridged = Mono
individual = stereo

OK. :thumb:
Can you hear the difference now or they are balance?
What is your source? CD player, Turntable, Digital player

It is still unbalanced. If I switch to 2V gain, the volume is lower but it seems to balance out the sides.
I am listening to a CD player.

You have to find out where is the problem first.
switch your speakers not cables and see if your right speaker is still louder.
The V1 or V2 is a option to change the gain and has nothing to do with balance.
Make sure the polarity is correct as well.

I switched the speakers and the sound is still louder on the right speaker.
I moved back and the sound did seem to blend together and sound good. I am wondering if I have to get used to stereo sound coming from a higher quality and truer system.

I knew that magic works in audio but nobody wants to listen to me. :green:
Well, listen and enjoy for few days then let us know.
Just out of curiosity, What was the model number of your luxman?

Yes I guess I experienced the difference of being in the "sweet" spot of stereo that was not as noticeable with my older receiver. It was a Luxman L-210
