Now to source a quiet power supply and SSD. I plan on the PPang USB card.

I'll try and use pullout parts (optical drive) for other things from the PC that just died which was my server and parts from my old machine that got modded for a gaming PC.

Sorry for all of the edits.

My big question is if the motherboard and processor are ok?  Ive read some other posts and I know Xeon's are better, but they cost more too.  I also know I will replace the power supply on the SSD with a battery PS.

This maybe goes without saying this is a budget build. I won't even have the pang USB card for awhile.

  Two more questions.

Is there any difference between the Toshiba Q Series Pro or Samsung 840 eve SSD's for this server? The 128GB are on sale.

I believe I should need minimal power as I won't have much in this baby and plan on shutting down all unnecessary programs and services.  Are there any super quiet power supplies to look at?

TIA,
Ray

Looks like Computer Audiophile might yield more feedback re your question. For whatever reason, seems to be "crickets" here.

Thanks. There is so much info on CA I may not need to ask too many questions now. My barebones untweaked PC is running. My first PC build and damn that was so easy it was silly. Needs help for sure, but it plays music through my DAC so it is a great start. Shrill and sometimes I must be hearing the jitter (Affects of jitter) and maybe those power supply issues, but that is what is going to be so fun about this. Tweaking it on a budget.
