Can you still get Bob Woods? They are no joke. I haven't been able to  afford anything better; as in anything better is going to be pretty spendy.

You can find some really nice used cables in your price range.

I have both Signal and Blue Jeans. Both are great values. I'd also suggest Anti-Cables.

If you spend more than Blue Jeans price, it's not a budget cable.

The Canare 4S11 was very good the last time I tried it.

Looking for no less than 7ft per side, no more than 9ft.

For budge cable I prefer a star quad of silver plated teflon insulted mil spec wire:

Just take 4 strands and put one end in a drill, have someone hold the other end and twist. If you use 14g wire for an 11g total it would run $22.40 to make an 8' set + connectors if you want 'em.

If you are switching over from Monster cable then most of the suggestions listed here will mostly be a lateral move. Yes, even the silver plated mill spec wire. More of the same. The reason why I sincerely believe this is because all of these suggestions (except for the anti cables) are nothing more than stranded wire bundles that interact with each other. Regardless of what special metal they are made out of, how they are twisted, or what the dielectric constant is, they are still just multi-stranded cables.

If you are looking for something that sounds clearly different, not just a little better at doing the same old thing, try a solid core cable or a proper Litz cable. (Not just a litz style braid - whatever that means,,, but a real litz insulated cable).

Real litz is definitely out of the $100 budget, so for your budget I will recommend AudioQuest CinemaQuest Type 2 or Type 4 Type 2 Spread Spectrum bulk speaker wire. This is commonly sold by the foot and you can terminate it yourself. I love this stuff for solid state gear and it is flexible yet durable enough for even PA and bass rig duties too! DNM Reson speaker cable sounds a little better than the AudioQuest for the home hifi.  And it is sold by the meter, also unterminated, but it is harder to find. Google, ebay, and a little patience will help you find the best place to buy these.

Just my two cents on speaker wire - what seems most obvious to me. Good luck and have fun!  :D

Ok.
Are you familiar with, or interested in, any Belden Brilliance cable?
Specifically part # 1307A?

Ah, yes the article on Mr. Woods there!

When I switched to them I wouldn't call it a "lateral" move from lamp cord, milspec, etc, that I've tried. It's clearly a cut above.

I like Furez FZ142AS 14-2 speaker cable at less than $1.00/ft.
I purchased mine from AVoutlet.com.  I'm a cheap bastard, but
I've tried different brands.  I used the Via Blue copper 4mm
crimp sleeves.  Of course YMMV.

Years ago CAT5 was all the rage.  Single pair worked for speakers without extension below say 60 Hz.

A better solution is to contact Scott Endler.  He makes up custom interconnects and speaker cabling - good quality, great prices.  (Better sound than from my Element Cable - similar to Blue Jean and Signal cables).

I'm pretty sure there are more cable companies than there are audiophiles/videophiles.
