JBL Studio 530
« on: 2 Jan 2014, 06:10 pm »
These JBL Studio speakers do look sharp - and designed by Greg Timbers
The all around word is good on them - and they look well built. Also, the
price on Amazon is really good. I have a pair coming and I will give them
a shake-down. They are selling fast since the price drop - 8 have been sold
since yesterday. I know that JBL can be hit or miss >> however, these do
really look good >> and after you eat the fish and spit out the bones from
some reviews, they still look sharp and good.

That's tempting. I've been looking for a pair of small constant directivity speakers ever since I sold my 3Pi/4Pi speakers (just didn't have the room for them). Thought about building a pair of the diysoundgroup.com smaller kits or getting some of the HSU HB-1 MK2 speakers, but these JBLs look great to me. Seem to have some good things said about them online. Hmmmm, pull the trigger or no?

Thanks for the heads up.

And just like that, Sound Distributors appears to be out of them, so Amazon price is back up to $600/pr.

Jim, I'm looking forward to reading your comments on them.  At first glance, it's certainly not a speaker I would've thought about buying... but after some reading... seems I dismissed them too quickly.

Between Amazon and SoundDistributers, 14 were sold in around 24 hrs

Still can get them for $369 via Beach Gift Shop on Amazon- and their ratings look good

Do not be too quick to dismiss some speakers - however, these would not be something
that I would put on a desk-top. I want to see how they compare against the Snell K7  :)

Some how the word got out and they moved fast - they were $372, then down to $369
They maybe needed to move some inventory - and they went. > The word seems to be
real good on the Studio 5 series - and a lot of people speak about the bass.

Some people like them, and enjoy them - and say that the bass is nice.

The Studio 5 is designed to be a step up - different tweeter, and different horn technology,
with a different type cabinet design.

I will post more impressions later - however I will say, that I would pay full price for the
Studio 530 > there is no aggressive horn character - no coming at you, to slap you in the
face. The 530 draws you in with a smooth and refined character, that seems to put you
with-in the soundstage.

Haven't heard them, but I have to say they look equally weird with and without the grilles.

Certainly looking forward to your impressions. The models 570, 580 and 590 also look interesting.

In general these look like a promising implementation of the horn in terms of adequate size permitting a low-ish crossover frequency.

The 1XX is older, and not part of the 5XX series

The 5XX series looks better, and even better in person - the 5-1/4" woofer in the
bookshelf really has some nice bass.

Still listening, and they are really nice with music - and as expected, they are
good with Home Theater. More impressions will be coming.
