Although each of us have our favorite O'Toole movie, my favorite has always been

The Lion in Winter

as a whole, this movie has some of the finest acting as I've seen.

What a great actor. He will be missed.

:(    I've seen Lawrence of Arabia several times, and it never gets old.  The cinematography is amazing, and it makes a helluva history lesson for young people anyone who doesn't understand the mess in the Middle East.

The Stunt Man - (as Eli Cross) "It's not what's eating him, it's what he's eating...makes it sort of interesting."

Heaven or Hell, you had better Loiter With Intent. And charge the bastards admission.

I agree with all of the above. But if I may add: The Ruling Class. What a cast!

My brother and I were born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s. We both became HUGE film fans, and several years ago we realized that there were so many classic films that we'd never seen. So we began methodically choosing which ones we'd watch and found that this was in many ways some of the most satisfying entertainment we'd ever experienced.

One day it was between a Cary Grant film and Lawrence of Arabia. We both were leaning toward the Grant film, but Lawrence of Arabia had a stronger reputation as a classic. What happened over the next three hours was just mindblowing. To this day, if I'm ever asked which ONE film would I choose to represent the adjective "epic", this is my choice. And I don't see that ever changing. What an absolutely beautiful film in all aspects. It was then that I started to understand the greatness of Peter O'Toole.

RIP, sir.

I love Murphy's War too. Great film.
Just last April I took my 11-yr old son to a film festival showing of Lawrence of Arabia. We went in at 6:15 p.m. and came out at 10:45 p.m....and loved every minute of it.

Agreed!

I'd also recommend Becket, which starred O'Toole as Henry II and Richard Burton as Thomas Becket.  It has some historical inaccuracies, but it is extremely well-acted.

He was a very fine actor with a wonderful body of work.  He will be greatly missed, and there are few iconic stars like him left in the world.

My Favorite Year had to have been to Errol Flynn what Citizen Kane was to William Randolph Hearst.....
