This whole thread has been excellent and really helped me understand what these amps are about.  Huge buzz on Audio Circle about AKSA amps - sounds much deserved.  Sounds to me like the CIA stuff is pretty amazing in its own right and CIA site should be an active one.  Thanks to everyone for jumping in including Dusty.  Now I need some cash to put these amps in my system.

I too was VERY impressed and I plan to buy another pair to biamp my speakers with  :P .

I will likely use these at the Colorado show in Oct.

What you and Dusty need to do is start using modded 1200's in your exhibits--they will rock the boat!!!

O.K. psych, I'll bite.  What is a "modded 1200"?

(And why would I want rocks in my boat?   )

I've noticed an overwhelming tendency in this forum to chase 'new', 'flavor of the month' stuff. Dusty's designs are about simple circuitry w/ short signal paths, efficiently packaged and affordably priced. They rely on clean electrical power, adequate shelving and good cabling. How much can one talk that over and over and over? ......

The epitome of "over and over and over."

I haven't talked to Dan in awhile, but I'll vouch for that statement. I'm still enthralled with my Modwrighted P-3A.

If Dan vouches for this amp, I may have to try it myself.
What's the trial policy?

It's amazing how some people's minds are so gullible...

I have been done with 1200 'evangelism' since the attacks stopped in Audiogon and the Vinyl Asylum.   Nowadays nobody dares mess up with 1200 owners, as those who did reallized they were being plain ignorant.  There's even other modded 1200 owners stepping up--my posts are not necessary anymore.  Mission accomplished.  What have you accomplished, if anything?  Chuck Josephson was right about you.

Truth is someone else in this thread owns a 1200.  I'll keep it private...

Hi Audiojerry,

I like my modwright level 1 dac as well as it is a great sounding product.
Have you thought about getting it turbomodded by empirical audio?

Dan is a great person to deal with.  I have a beta modwright preamp here at home and it sounds pretty good imo.  I'll be upgrading later in the year to the full production model.

Btw have you signed up for the aksa 100 nirvana plus tour of the states?  You like comparing different pieces of equipment.

YADA YADA ...Truth is someone else in this thread owns a 1200.  I'll keep it private...

I'll explain the intricacies of my post: it has nothing to do with the Technics TT. It DOES have to do with the inconsistency of someone who makes one post criticizing
"talk[ing subjects]... over and over and over" and then makes another post doing exactly what he has just criticized.  Not posts in different threads, different forums and months removed from one another, but two posts in the same thread just days apart.

Perhaps  the word "epitome"  confused you???

BTW,  I would never think of my participation in this forum  in terms of "accomplishments" or as a "mission."  I've made posts in a variety of circles, on a variety of topics (even being so bold as to initiate threads in the music circle and making 185 posts there); on the other hand, you've made the Technics post "over and over and over," largely killing participation in the Vinyl Circle and apparently making NO posts about actual music (search the archives).  "Accomplishments" indeed.

Hi Psychic,

Your 'Evangelism' turned a number of people off from posting here at audiocircle on the vinyl forum.  Myself included :nono: .

It's great that you like your technics and channel islands gear but please don't ram it down our throats.

I hope that the vinyl forum here will again be a place to hang out.  Btw my bluenote piccolo sounds fantastic with my new denon dl103 cartridge and bugle phonostage.

Hi Rod,
I was very interested in the AKSA audition tour, but that was quite awhile ago, and it never materialized. Since then, I haven't had much time to spend on AC. Is the tour back on? Hugh is another person I have great respect for by the way he's conducted himself and the many owners who vouch for him and his products.

Hi Audiojerry,

Glad to read that your back with us, don't leave again okay  :) .  Your posts were excellent AFAIK.

I see you've signed up already to have a listen, which imo is an excellent chance to compare the amplifier to what you already have in your system.  No amp is the best amp in the world but the aksa sure does sound good imo and if you can solder (or have a friend) it is a no brainer.

Best wishes and happy listening.

rod

ps make sure you do a review and invite nathanm along as well.

Thanks Rocket,
Nathan is certainly welcome, but I think he may still be a little nausious from his last visit listening to too much Dianna Krall and Patricia Barber.

If I answered to you like you deserve this would end up in the fight club.  I don't want in consideration to Dusty and Danny Boy, who rarely post.  You could have chosen to ignore me, but I guess you must honor Chuckie's appreciation of you.  Sean said it best about guys like you...

There's no point playing Mr. Music man with me. :nono:     Not with a guy that has gotten laid in a record store during working hours while the manager was taking care of the front counter.

I haven't been here in four months or so.  If people like you are so feeble as to be intimidated in an anonymous internet forum, I can ony imagine what would happen if you were left to walk the streets of Charlotte Amalie or Detroit at night.  Adult diapers would be necessary!

Anyone who wants a killer system on a budget should check out Channel Islands/Monolithic toys.  They are priced right and if you are clear in your goals Dusty will help you achieve them.  He's sometimes cranky but what I do is call later...and catch him at a better time! :rotflmao:

PS.  If you have an old BMW he'll be able to help, too...

Did this actually address the question raised? Have you made ANY posts in the Music circle?
Instead, you respond with a limp answer about getting laid. I got laid at the drive-in theater, does that make me a cinema buff?

The higher life forms call this a non sequitur.

FYI - I went back to the DH Labs speaker wire for now.  It's a better all-around wire.  The CAT 5e cable ended up being too lean with the bass.  The heavier gauge wire gives the music a certain "fullness" and "richness" that I like very much.  As I said before, I think a simple, solid, rather than stranded, teflon-coated OFC copper wire somwhere in the middle of the CAT 5e and the T-14 might do the trick.  The T-14 loses just a bit of detail at low listening volume (70dB), but really excels and kicks in once up around 80-85dB.  Probably a combination of amps and wire.

By the way, I've heard that the first few watts of a SET amplifier is where you get the best sound.  Push-pull tube amps supposedly give there best later on their power range.  Where's the sweetspot, so to speak, with the VMB-1s?  Based on my listening to date, I'd say it's not the first few watts.  They come on strong somwhere after the first few watts and kick in at a very comfortable listening level.  I don't like excessively loud music.  That being said, these amps play cleanly with ease at 90dB-95dB with peaks into the 100s (based on Radio Shack analog SPL).  With my drivers (89dB), I'm pretty much done at around 105dB to 106dB, I think.  I don't need anymore given my room size.  The whole experience is awesome and very non-fatiguing despite the listening level.  Midrange and vocals are oh-so-smooth and never break up.  And, the bass is clean and tight.

I've got a good thing going here...

Thanks,

Jim

Well, do you want to know how my little $249 CI passive faired against a $3500 Presence Audio tube pre-amp?  It wasn't even funny.
