Eric's Pepperwood Burl SoundScape 8 HT system
« on: 5 Oct 2013, 07:17 pm »
Eric wanted a home theater system centered around a pair of SoundScape 8's.  He toured the shop and fell in love with both pepperwood burl and spalted bees wing makore.

So the decision was made to go with pepperwood burl for the SoundScape 8's and SoundScape 8C center channel and spalted bees wing makore for the two 15" Rythmik subwoofers.

Here are some pics of the SoundScape 8's...

And a close-up...

We didn't get a chance to shoot photos of the center channel or subs before they were picked up today, so Eric may have to post those later.

Happy listening Eric!

- Jim

Since Eric picked these speakers up, there will be no shots of the FedEx truck.  So Mary thought we should post some pics of the loading task.  We loaded all the speakers and the subs into a pickup truck and an SUV.

Here are some pictures...

How do you get two 15" Rythmik subs into an SUV?  Very carefully...

Notice how the chiefs outnumber the indians?

Now let's get those SS8's in the truck...

Do they fit yet?

OK, Eric, you are good to go!

Thanks guys,  Jim, Mary and crew of course.  Opened up the shop for me again on a weekend.

I have them home after a detour to Columbus for the President's Cup.  I'm very excited to finally have them home.  I did unbox them yesterday when I had some help and they are quite beautiful.  Everything I expected and more.  I'm sure my pictures won't do them justice but I will try.  As just Jim told me, my pepperwood burl has more red when compared with his original SS8's but they match my room much better (I had sent him pictures of the room) I have to mount my TV on the wall first and then re-arrange, re-wire all the electronics.  Unfortunately, I leave town tomorrow for a week.  I will update with pictures once I have some good ones.  I will also be stopping by RMAF this weekend as well.  Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

OK I finally got things all wired. This is my initial setup, things are already sounding great. I'm very happy with the way the veneers came out. WAF through the roof. Apologies in advance for the iphone pics but these are the only ones I have right now.  I'm not sure why some of the pictures are rotated on their side and I don't know how to fix that.  I also posted at AVS when this forum was down yesterday.

Overview

The very imposing SSC8

Top view of the center pattern

Left sub with SBWM. This veneer has awesome layering to it. (I know there's a better word for it that Jim used but I can't think of it). It looks almost 3D or holographic. In the pics with some sunlight you can see it. Again, pictures can't do Salks justice (especially iphone pics)

Right SS8 and sub

Now back to listening.

Does the center channel have a side firing woofer or passive radiator?

?

Those are dual 12" passive radiators, same as on the SS8s.

And those look awesome in their new home! Wow!  One question,  it looks like the right SS8 is pointed at the side of the couch?  Does this interfere with the sound at all?

Thanks for the kind words.

As stated those are passive 12" woofers on the center.  The right main is in front of a couch but there is about 3ft of clearance and all but the lower 8" woofer are above the armrest.  I haven't noticed any effect.  Obviously it's not ideal but it's what I have to deal with.  Regardless, I've already starting looking at changing the furniture in the room.  I don't really like the couch anyway.

I ended up having to do a sofa and non-matching chaise combo to allow clearance for my SS8s.  Every loveseat was so deep from front to back that it would have come out in front of the SS8s.  So, I went with a very narrow chaise and it turned out pretty nice.

I'm anxious to see and listen to your SS8s when they come in.  :green:

Wonderful, Eric!  Beautiful, indeed.  Now you need a larger television to cover up that outlet.
