Anyone running a dedicated mono cartridge?
« on: 4 Oct 2013, 03:50 pm »
I have a friend with a Miyajima Premium Be mono and with a good vintage mono LP it can send shivers down my spine. A few days ago I took a 6-eye mono first pressing of Miles Davis Round About Midnight to do a comparison with the recent Mofi reissue. The first pressing with the mono cartridge was incredible; the reissue just couldn't compare in tonal complexity and realism. That was the best I've heard that record sound, and I'm really familiar with its sound.

So I'm curious if anyone else here is using a mono cartridge? I wish I could, but my Spacedeck can only accommodate a single tonearm.

There was a thread about mono carts recently.

I'm using a Miyajima Premium BE on a Durand Talea tonearm wired for mono which feeds a dedicated mono phono stage input.  If you are into jazz and early pop; mono is the way to go.
