BRYSTON 4BSST2 DB settings on rear ?
« on: 2 Oct 2013, 05:04 pm »

What does it mean ?

23 db ?

29 db ?

When to use ? why ?

My speakers are Focus Audio FS-788  They never go below 10 ohms

Is this amp overkill for my speakers

Preamp is a McIntosh C220

To better match your input to your preamp. I think James said awhile back that one setting will make the power amp sound more forward in presentation ( which I prefer). I could be totally wrong but that's what my understanding is. :thumb:

If you have too much overall gain in your system (gain of preamp plus gain of power amp) you may have a small volume control range making it difficult to adjust volume (for example you are at 9:00 at desired maximum volume).  If that's the case you can reduce the gain to 23dB to get more volume control travel making fine adjustments easier.

The sensitivity of your speakers is a lowish 86dB, so depending on your listening volume, room size and distance from the speakers, I think the 4BSST2 is a good match with plenty of headroom for peaks.

The mcintosh c220 allows for gain adjustment making the bryston gain choice moot
