J-River and Synology issues
« on: 17 Sep 2013, 04:06 pm »
I have been experiencing some minor annoyances with jriver and my synology NAS. I am sure there are better forums to ask but you guys know your stuff.
I am finding that JRiver is losing the connection to the library everytime I reboot my computer.
I am also having issues with the synology not staying mapped. It was showing up under network as DATASERVER which is what I named it. Now it's not there. I can use the synology assistant to map it but it then shows up under computer. Then when I reboot I need to remap. I know these are Windows 8 questions but I hope someone here will be kind enough to help.
Thanks!

Windows 7 was a little sketchy about Network Discovery, and I'm guessing Windows 8 may be also.  If you're not already using static IP addressing, consider assigning a static IP address to the Synology and using the IP address in the network path rather than than the UNC "DATASERVER" server name.

Ok. I will google how to do that. Would that be in Control Panel or the synology software?

Setting a static IP address for the Synology NAS would be done through the Synology DSM Web Interface in Control Panel > Network > Network Interface tab.  The IP address assigned would need to be in your local network IP range, likely 192.168.x.x with Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

I assume your router is the DHCP server for your network, so you would want to set that IP address (and any other static IP addresses) as a Reserved address excluded from the pool of automatically assigned IP addresses.  It depends on your particular router, but that is often found under LAN Setup > DHCP in your router's web configuration page.

On my Mac one needs to have the Synology auto mount.  I also have JRiver auto mount too.  I'm sure there is a way to do it in Windows but I have no idea.

Static IP really is a must as srb has pointed out.

Mapping a drive is not an issue.

Setting the IP address static in the synology web interface fixed it!

Hi guys.  Big issues here too.  I have jriver 19 and a synology 1513.  I managed to plug my usb drive into the synology and transfer files.  I can see the transfered files on the synology on File Station.

Now when i go to jriver in Devices and Drivers, click on Network, it seems to have created at CAPSv3 directory but it wont show Diskstation, and it doesnt access any files when i click on CAPSv3.

Any advice?

Did you map the Synology as a drive?

You new to use the Synology manager software. Then push the map button. Super easy.

You guys are awesome!

I spent 4 hours ripping my hair out before spending 10 minutes here and solving it.

Thank you!
