How do you get them home?
« on: 16 Aug 2013, 11:22 am »
When you buy planars, how do you get them home? Say you buy, heck, even a pair of Magnepan 1.7's, it's the box too long for most vehicles to carry inside? Do you rent  a trailer? Can you put them on a roof rack?

When I bought 1.6qr's, I had a hatchback. Folded down the rear seat and laid the passenger seat down as far as it could. They just barely fit, but they did.

My 8 ft tall electrostatics were delivered.  But if I had to pick them up myself, a U-Haul van is only $19.95.

I use the bed of a pick up truck and now matter what, it ALWAYS threatens to rain on that day.

My Citroën C5 Break (station wagon) had no problem with 3.6 in original shipping box (74"x27"x5").

Dealer's should earn their high profit margins. Have 'em delivered and set up.

Honda Odysee is my choice for hauling Planers. Easy to load, water tight, rides nice and big as a house with the seats down. When we bought it, I told my wife it would be great for family trips.
Well it does actually work for those too.

Don't dealers deliver large speakers like Magneplaners anymore?

Sure, mine were.
He's talking about buying used, though.
Maybe offer the seller some extra dough to have them delivered?

I don't think there are high profit margins on Maggies.

I picked up a used pair of 3.7s the other day to try out for a while. With my Sienna van I could have brought home 5 or 6 pairs.

No Picture with box inside, but I still have the same car and the Magnepan shipping box. The box was on a EU-pallet, 2 m long and it had to be cut.

Avfew hours later. Here is a picture of my 3.6 in my car, http://www.forumbilder.se/CF7J9/magnepan-in-car.jpg .

The drive is like 6 hours each way.... I was thinking about flying out and renting a van for the trip back.... But, if I could figure out something else to be able to drive up and back..... I only have a Mini cooper, so, not planar friendly, even MMG's would be a challenge!

Yeah, sure! For 6+ hours! Never a good idea to just hold on to stuff on your car  :o
