Depends on the season, but for summer, when the boat's sitting right out front... "Boat Drinks"

Living would be Robert Earl Keen and my  celestial guest would be Jerry Garcia.

Good call on both of these. I think Guy Clark or John Prine would be cool as well. Love a good songwriter.

OMG! Whatta great topic.  My only problem is as soon as I start to type one performer's name, a dozen others come to mind.  The answer to this question can be paraphrased from the old Lay's potato chips commercial... "betcha can't just pick one!"

In no particular order, based on dinner, drinks and conversation only - NO performing.  I'll keep it to a "Chiller Theatre" handful, even though that is hard for me to do!

Frank Zappa.
I think he'd be the most interesting.

Another vote for Frank.

Well, since many are picking multiples, I would really enjoy cooking dinner for Maria Mulduar. Hey, I'm old, It's all I got left.

Well, I am going to go all 'elitist and snobby' on you (because that's how I roll) and pick these guys -

Rubinstein, Heifetz and Piatgorsky.

Having these guys playing Ravel or Debussy in my den would be mid-blowing. Hell, I'd even put up with them playing Tchaikovsky...

I agree with a lot of the previous posts, but fear conversation and interest would dwindle if substances in immoderate quantities came into the picture... well at least for me... and I guess it depends on how the conversation goes... might take the red pill depending on the promise of the rabbit hole...

So, I asked my wife, she said Stevie Ray Vaughn without hesitation.

I can't pick between:

Yo-Yo Ma - who is such a positive, creative force and a role model for impeccable musicianship, emotional expressiveness, and camaraderie among musical communicators, as well as Asian-Americans generally, and

Stevie Wonder - my all-time hero, representing what humans can achieve against multiple odds and still represent a beacon for others to strive for, musically and socially: a true American genius.

Maybe more later, as I think Dave Holland would be a really cool guy to hang with.

From those no longer with us, I'd most enjoy a conversation with Frank Zappa.

From the living, it would have to be Rick Wakeman - a brilliant teller of stories with a seemingly endless supply of hilarious tales.
