If you could have any musician, alive or dead* to your house for an evening, who would it be and why?
I'm not thinking they'd perform for you, I'm talking about a nice sit-down dinner and drinks kind of thing.

* By "Dead", I don't mean their zombie has risen from the grave, I mean them as they were at their level of stardom/personality just before the time of death.

Great idea for a thread!
Muddy Watters, Hubert Sumlin, Otis Span and a few others of that time frame and genre.
Buddy Guy anytime! Clapton, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards probably need to buy some weed to get him to stop by!!
Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, oh yea..

  • The poodle bites, the poodle chews it.
Frank Zappa.
I think he'd be the most interesting.

  • a riot is the language of the unheard- Dr. King
Bernstein.  He had a passion for education as well as for music.  We would have common ground for conversation.

I'll second Frank Zappa.

If he was busy over at Steve's place, I'd pick Jim Croce.

Good thread topic!  I think Roger Waters would be more interesting than Gilmour, but I'd take either.  Jewel if she would sing for me, Sammy Hagar

Good thread topic!
Thank you fellas.
I thought of it the other day and was surprised it hadn't been done (to my knowledge) yet.
I figured all the good thread ideas had been taken already.

Boy that's a tough one but since I've liked Neil Peart for so long I'll go with him.

Yup - good thread idea.

Off the top of my head without obsessing over it to much, I'd have to say Jimi Hendrix if he would play. Dude died super young so not sure he would have some super deep or interesting world view.

For hanging out, the Boss seems like he'd be fun and have some interesting conversations. If it were just to party hardy, one or another of the band members of rock / punk band Nashville Pussy. They can be some intimidating SOBs. Dont think I've ever heard a band play a Boston club with a big confederate flag at the back of the stage and sign off saying "F U YAH YANKIE MFERs", then just stroll up to the bar without a fight. I think the crowd was actually stunned and scared witless of them, down to the 6ft female bass player.
